Transfer to Law - 2nd Year

Since this is a UNSW forum, most of us are UNSW students, so we don't know. I always find it strange how people think that they are suddenly going to do so much better at uni when they couldn't make the cut off in the HSC - especially given the amount of spoon feeding that goes on high school...

BSc in 2yrs instead of 3yrs

    (1) Even if you want to overload like a maniac, you still have to meet prerequisites, etc, so it might not all fit into a 2 year time scale properly. (2) If you are aiming for med, you need a good GPA. There is no point overloading and finishing in two years with a pass average that wouldn't...

    Prerequisites for DipEd...?

I am assuming that you are interested in secondary teaching? You will need a major at tertiary level in some subject that is taught at school. Otherwise, you may need to so a graduate diploma or coursework masters in that area to show that you have the requisite background knowledge. As...

not being allowed to do 4u

Yes, I don't think it would be a good idea either. (The distance ed thing, that is.) However, classes can't be expanded indefinitely. The Teachers Federation is quite strict about this, so yeah, there is a restriction in public schools (I think the upper limit in senior high school is...

not being allowed to do 4u

Like cem says, schools are not obliged to supply you with a class for absolutely every subject that you want. Obviously there are limits on the resources that they have available, too. They may have only enough teachers to staff one MX2 class and there are limitations on how many students are...

    Non-uniform circular motion

You could check the syllabus to be sure.

    Senior Science or Biology

    Biology is a real subject.

    Stones hitting Birds :D

    My solution.

    Intergration

I believe some calculators find the cube root (or any other root) via an algorithm that takes logarithms first. That is why they are giving you a math error - you can't take the log of a negative number.

    UNSW Open Day 2009

The maglev train is good. I've seen it before. Will they have the chocolate fountain in mech eng again?

Science forums very quiet this year...

I am doing a research masters in applied maths. You could call it biomathematics, although biomathematics is a fairly vague term that encompasses many different things. I started it this year, but I am only studying part time, so I don't know when I will finish (sometime within the next 3...

Science forums very quiet this year...

MATH2281 is cool. (Usually it's taught by my supervisor and co-supervisor - how could it not be?) MATH2301 I never did , so I don't know, but I am having fun teaching myself Matlab at the moment (that is not meant to be sarcastic, either, I think Matlab is much easier to learn than Maple.)...

    Death results from poor calculations.

Shouldn't round of until the end of the calculation. Of course, if you use a scientific calculator, it will be rounding off internally anyway.

Science forums very quiet this year...

UNSW forums in general seem quieter this year...

    general UNSW chit-chat

More like an outbreak of cost cutting, I think (less courses to run = less cost). In this case it happens to coincide with common sense... Actually, I think teaching science students how to communicate is a good idea, but I don't think that SCOM courses are the way to do it. I think it...

    general UNSW chit-chat

You have to do this course? Aren't you doing a double degree? (I always thought that one of the advantages of doing a double degree is the ability to circumvent crap like gen eds and scom courses.)

    Australian Maths Competition

Re: Australian Mathematics Competition Um, yeah, it is what we did, but I think you'd have to follow the conversation which went on over several days... Basically, I started with two maximum intervals that were 180 km apart, and then I worked out that you could make both of them smaller, but...

    Interesting Question

Not really. What you've done is just a non-rigorous form of induction.

    Who likes Probability??

I have to teach it. I always hate it, too. The weird thing is, Gen maths probability is harder than 2 unit, cause the 2 unit students don't do perms and combs.

    Is this a legitimate theorem?

You are allowed to use it without proving it. If you look up the 2/3 unit syllabus it has several examples (p 24, onwards) where this theorem is used without proof to solve problems.
