    General transfer questions.

If I recall correctly, about 25% of first year law students at UNSW are transfers. Yes, you do mix. Classes for transfer students are not separate. By "credit", the university means that they will count certain subjects towards requirements for the non-law component of the degree. For example...

    Study advice

As was said above, for articles simply summarise the theme and arguments of the article in ~4 dot points. You don't need to copy out huge summaries of articles. (I've seen people do this in making their exam notes and I always think, why bother? Just take the book in with you if you are that...

    4 hours back to back

You should be fine. A four hour block is not too bad. A six hour block without a break on the other hand...

    Times Higher Education Uni Rankings

There are two points to make in relation to that. First, the answer is no. My old contracts lecturer was one of the best teachers I've ever had in my life. She left the law school to go and teach maths at high school. She wanted to do more teaching, which she loved. But at the university...

    Times Higher Education Uni Rankings

I wouldn't worry. The THES rankings are pretty much useless. The rankings are largely based on research - about 60% if I recall - which often has very little impact on students. Apart from some recognition if you are looking at working overseas, you could hardly find a more pointless way of...

    Arts/Law at UNSW

Yes to both questions. If you are eventually eligible to do Honours (that is, your marks are good enough), then you would complete your Honours year after your third year. After your Honours year in Arts you would then go on to do your final two years of law.

Law at Notre Dame or UWS?

    Ahahahaha Marcus Einfeld style

Where can I find court decisions?

Re: Where can I find courts (magistrate) history? Local courts rarely publish decisions online. But for most other Australian decisions, you can access them via AustLII.

Law at Notre Dame or UWS?

Bare in mind Mallesons are unlikely to publicly admit to preferring one university over another. If you ask their employees one on one orally at a careers seminar or some such thing then they will be more forthright. But yes, grades is the most important factor.

Branded as "stupid" in law school?

Re: Branded as "stupid" in law school?? Yes there is law camp for first years :) And as has been mentioned no-one will care about your UAI and they won't ask you. To be honest, only a complete wanker would go around asking people their UAIs at university. Uni is very different to the small...

Law at Notre Dame or UWS?

One thing to note is that Masters of Law at USyd or UNSW is roughly $17,000 and you can't defer it

    Four law subjects per semester

Re: doing 4 law subjects per semester Some people move around in the first week, which creates openings. You can try swapping, but I have a bunch of friends who are fervently trying to move into Santow's class, so good luck :P Alex Steel and David Brown are good for Crim. Andrea Durbach is...

    Employment prospects - D average?

Re: D average - clearing up I should clarify what I meant: other people's notes are highly overrated

Com/Law or Med or Pharmacy or Dentistry?

    He's taking the piss :P

    Four law subjects per semester

Re: doing 4 law subjects per semester Ed Santow was one of the best teachers I've ever had :) Cathy Sherry is best for Property, but she's not taking Property 1 this year.

    Four law subjects per semester

Re: doing 4 law subjects per semester No I think that's perfectly fine. While property law is one of the harder law subjects you'll do at law school, Crim 1 and Law, Lawyers & Society are two of the easiest. You'll be fine. Crim 1 has a lot of reading but it's really light stuff. Property...

    Employment prospects - D average?

Re: D average - clearing up Each university is different. At UNSW 80+ WAMs constitute roughly the top 10%. I think a high Credit average may be enough, depending on your other strengths. It all depends. I must confess, I didn't apply to anyone but the top six so I don't profess to have too much...

    Employment prospects - D average?

Re: D average - clearing up Notes are highly overrated :P The guy has High Distinctions for every law subject except one. He also received the university medal for Arts, doing Honours in philosophy. I can't tell you that you need a WAM of exactly 76.57281 to get an interview. I don't know the...

    Employment prospects - D average?

Re: D average - clearing up My Law WAM is 77.04, my Arts WAM is 77.88.

    Employment prospects - D average?

Re: D average - clearing up Well when people say at least a D average is necessary, they are talking about top-tier law firms - ie. Mallesons, Allens, Freehills, Clayton, Minter, Blakes. Smaller law firms are not as fussy. But to answer your question, generally it is the law component that is...
