    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

With respect, I thoroughly disagree with this - doing this many past papers will wear you out very quickly, and won't actually help you learn. What is way more important is to learn from your mistakes and refine your skills - maybe do 1 past paper every 2 days. This way, you have time to do the...

Help me please with HSC! I'm coming last and it isn't normal!

First of all let me say that you are not stupid, dumb or useless – you’re a valuable person with your own unique abilities and talents. It sounds like for the past few years you’ve been mistreated and repressed by others around you – this is such a horrible experience to go through. You say that...

How does magnetic field bend Cathode Rays

I can't remember exactly what paper it was, but it was a MC question which showed a shadow of a maltese cross, and basically said "a magnetic field is applied in X direction, what happens to the shadow"

How does magnetic field bend Cathode Rays

This is what would be expected; however, I remember that a few months ago our teacher gave us a past paper with this exact question. I argued exactly what drsoccerball said. My teacher then pulled out a discharge tube with a maltese cross and actually did the experiment - and startlingly, the...

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

That feel when you're inspired to do heaps of study, but feel too unwell to fully concentrate on any school work. I guess I should just try and rest for the rest of the day and see how I feel tomorrow

What to learn in the Holidays

+1 Do 2U (and maybe some 3U) in this upcoming break. Then, in the 6 week summer holidays, learn as much of the 4U course as you can. That's what I did: I learnt Conics, Graphs, Integration and Volumes well before the 2015 school year started. Then, over the next term or so I taught myself...

    Terry Lee combinations question

Ah, thankyou so much, I see now. One final question: what is the reason for the 2C1 in Terry's solution? I understand all of his other working but I don't see what the 2C1 is there for

    Terry Lee combinations question

Could somebody please point out the flaw in my method for this question from Terry Lee? If it's hard to understand from the picture, my idea was to choose 1 ball from each colour set (hence [11C1]^4), and choose 2 more from any of the remaining 40.

Wasn't too bad I guess; question 8 was cool because the entire question led to a very simple but cool result

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive I've only learnt the Solvay process recently, but I'll have a go: Importance Limestone (calcium carbonate, CaCO3) is an essential raw material for the production of sodium carbonate via the Solvay method. It is burnt/heated in a kiln in order to produce...
