    Q2Q Binding energy question

I'm a little bit confused about the binding energy per nucleon graph - I understand that a greater BE/A results in a more stable nucleus, However, what I'm confused about is fusion and fission, and why they release energy. For example, if Uranium splits to form products with an overall higher...

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive I'm doing Industrial because my class is doing it, and I know it's stupid to not do the option that you do in class. However, if I had complete control over which option my class and I did, I would have seriously considered doing Chemistry of Art - it looks...

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

Try (I know it's hard, but try) to think on the positive side - there's only 2 more months until you never have to think about all that boring content ever again. Also, in a way, subjects where rote learning is key are good, because it's not necessarily a competition of natural skill, instead...

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

Anyone have tips for improving handwriting in English? I got my trial mark the other day and was very pleasantly surprised, however I got a couple of comments from the markers saying that I should try to improve my handwriting. One of them said that she had to read through one of my essays a few...

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

850-1000 words for me with my scrawly handwriting, that's about 4.5-5 pages, but for others with huge handwriting, it might be closer to 7 or 8.

    Re: HSC 2015 4U Marathon Lets get some inequalities up in here: (\textup{i})\ \mathrm{Prove\ that}\ \frac{a+b}{2}\geq \sqrt{ab}\ \mathrm{and\ hence\ prove\ that} \frac{a+b+c+d}{4}\geq \sqrt[4]{abcd} \\(\textup{ii})\ \mathrm{Let}\ d = \frac{a+b+c}{3}.\ \mathrm{Show\ that}\...

    2015ers Chit-Chat Thread

The english teachers at my school (who also are HSC markers) say that sometimes they don't even read the conclusion (when marking for HSC), and if they do, it's usually just a skim over it to make sure that it's half-decent. The final sentence in a body paragraph is pretty important though, imo

    MIF

I used MIF last year when I did accelerated 2U - it was the school's suggested/prescribed text so I didn't really think to get another book. Was a bit stupid of me - MIF is loaded with tons and tons of easy, pointless questions and has the worst formatting imaginable (~8cm margins on every page??)

HSC 2015 MX2 Permutations & Combinations Marathon (archive)

Re: 2015 permutation X2 marathon Looks good to me. I edited/changed the question to make it a bit easier once I realised how many cases there were haha, but your logic seems correct. Here's what I figured for my edited question (in white so that others don't have to see if they don't want)...

Re: 2015 permutation X2 marathon Here's one I just came up with: A musician is selecting and preparing songs for his upcoming album. He currently has 13 songs: 4 are slow, 6 are moderate, and 3 are fast. How many different (ordered) track listings are possible if: The album must open and close...

    Re: 2015 permutation X2 marathon This is what I'm thinking: 6C4 - choose 4 bowlers from the 6 available 3C2 - choose 2 wicket keepers from the 3 available 9C5 - choose 5 other members from the 9 available Total: 6C4.3C2.9C5 = 5670

    Re: 2015 permutation X2 marathon Here's what I have (assuming the order of cars through the gates matters): Case 1 - 2 gates have 2 cars while the other 6 gates have 1 car 8C2 - choose 2 gates 10C2*2! - choose 2 cars for gate 1 & arrange 8C2*2! - choose 2 cars for gate 2 & arrange 6! -...

HSC 2015 MX2 Permutations & Combinations Marathon (archive)

Re: 2015 permutation X2 marathon I think I figured out another way to fix mine: 6C4 (choose 4 tigers and put in cages) 4! (arrange these tigers) 4C2 (choose 2 cages for other two tigers) 2! (ways to arrange these two tigers) divided by 2!2!, because in each of the two 2-tiger cages, there are...
