Australia: The Queen and the Republic Debate

No, such an act would cause the Prime Minister sack the GG. End of story. Do your research. The worst thing that would happen even if for some reason the PM couldn't sack the GG in that instance is that the various branches of legislature would simply ignore the GG and probably call an...

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

Well, given Internode and Telstra confirmed that the government is discussing it with them but that they are under NDA's, I thought it was a given. The lack of denial from the government is also telling.

I don't care but I'm in no rush for it, so I voted no.

Australia: The Queen and the Republic Debate

I think ex-Commonwealth countries and countries whose goals match those of the Commonwealth can still participate.

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

Lentern, considering how much shit you regularly post, I'm aware this is just more of the same, but it's ridiculous none-the-less. Civil liberties (including for the internet and communications industries) have been part of Greens charter and policy for years. The Greens aren't entrenched like...

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

Bullshit eh? The government confirmed it. http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/349779/opposition_government_web_monitoring_grows/?fp=16&fpid=1 DO NOT VOTE FOR LABOUR. Preference the Greens in your top 3 parties (and above Labour and Liberal) if you want to strengthen civil liberties in this...

    NSW State Politics

I used to be a strong critic of presidential-style politics, but now I realise that having a directly elected president/prime minister/premier would help prevent exactly the type of shit going on in federal and state politics today. Instead of a party of out-of-touch geriatrics electing the...

Economics of Discrimination Based on Non-Productive Factors

The sad thing is you pretend you do Neb, and then fly into a torrent of insults and namecalling when somebody (rightly) pulls you up for your ignorance. You were permanently banned from this forum for a reason.

Economics of Discrimination Based on Non-Productive Factors

Hydrogen CAN be obtained easily from non-oil based sources (electrolysis via renewables, as is done in Iceland where geothermal is abundant, and can be done anywhere solar is abundant or becomes abundant). Maybe not as cheaply as oil-based sourced (although in the future it will be cheaper due...

You're right, we should penalise the agricultural industry.

I imagine you also wouldn't have a problem with everybody's phone lines being taped and recorded by default and without a warrant.

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

Um, don't get delusional. Labour of Hawke/Keating were fucking ace. Liberal of Fraser were fucking ace. Labour of Rudd, Liberal of Howard? Not so much. Pretty horrible.

Poor people had better access to medical treatment on a free market

Yes it is. I'm sorry Scaredytiger, but that's a really retarded comment. Could it be improved? Yes, but that's beside the point.

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

It's not hyperbole at all. Data retention and Internet censorship allow any state to do really bad things to its citizens. All that's needed is the will, which unfortunately is all too common in politics. Hence, trappings (clothing/tools/features) of a totalitarian state.

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

Don't be a fool. You have a lot of choices to vote for, at least one of which can exercise meaningful power against shit like this. As long as everyone assumes they only have two choices nothing will change.

Govt wants ISPs to record browsing history

In February the Greens tried to amend legislation recently passed that allows ISPs to spy on their users (making it easier for the government to eventually do so). The Greens tried to clarify the bill to remove ambugity and protect privacy as much as possible. The Coalition agreed with the...

It probably means incumbent party. Edit: Oh, you're talking about the poll for this thread. It means the option you voted for.
