That's a shame. One of my friends lives at Fenner Hall and she snuck a group of us in after all the exams finished. Let me tell you, the kitchens at Fenner Hall are amazing. Fridges everywhereeeeeeeee!

Ignore the rankings. They are based on research output so they aren't really an accurate measure. Of course, more research could mean better academics thus better teachers but there are an incredible amount of variables which can also affect teaching, that they become a useless measure. Just go...

I doubt it. Last year's HSC cohort had 71,130 students so the jump is fairly marginal. There are loads of degree programs in Australia so that jump will be spread out relatively evenly.

I have to admit any sort of Engineering degree would be a great fit for your requirements.

I would go even further and say HSC English subjects are useless for everything but Literature and forms of Performing Arts. Essay writing in other subjects will always trump English because of the focus on analytical skills.

Your best port of call would be ringing up the university itself, but I'm not too sure if Student Services is normally staffed or there are skeleton staff present.
