    Uses of indicators

Methyl Orange is useful in distinguishing between slightly acidic and strongly acidic substances, while Bromothymol Blue is used to distinguish between acidic, neutral and basic substances.

HELP!! Is it Too late to drop down to general maths.

No, it's not too late. However, Mathematics has better scaling than General Maths, so if your friend is capable of doing above-average in Mathematics, maybe he or she should reconsider.

    losing weight?

Calm down, tiger. Dazed was talking about how it might be inconvenient for a busy person to fit 6 small meals into their schedule. I'm saying, it doesn't matter whether you have 6 meals or 3, as long as your meals are healthy and you're getting your RDI of vitamins and minerals, you'll be fine...

    Pregnancy Scares

I used to think women get pregnant if their butt rubs against a man's butt. I don't know where I developed that theory from, but I believed it. When I caught the bus I would always stand up the whole way, scared that if I sit down I'll catch some butt-germs and get pregnant. This was year 7...

    losing weight?

Yeah, Bscienceboi, don't you know that these days, normal = fat? :p In fact, most "underweight" girls are still trying to be thinner. It's so unhealthy. I understand your desire to lose weight and be 45 kg instead of 51 kg, but you're not overweight. Even if you don't end up losing a lot...

    losing weight?

You don't have to bother with the 6 meals a day. One rule - don't eat when you're not hungry. Also, drink water or eat fruit before a meal. You don't have to live on salads, but avoid deep-fried and high-sugar foods - everything else should be fine. As for exercise, if you have no time...

    the 'I HATE SUPRE' thread

They've changed a little during the past few years. I remember going in there when I was in year 8. It was dark, the music was giving me a headache, and there was nothing that covered you up properly. Now they have some decent stuff, although it's not really my style, casual clothes like...

    Uses of indicators

Just a correction: phenolphthalein is used to test whether something is slightly or highly alkaline. An example for testing soils would be hydrangea flowers. They are pink in basic soil and blue in acidic soil - exactly the opposite of litmus!

    past papers

Would you mind posting the question? I can't access the adobe file at the moment, and it would be more convenient anyway. There are only solutions to multiple choice questions, and the 2005 solutions aren't out yet. The 2004 solutions can be found here...

    Yes, that's enough.

    Biopolymer ???

You've got it. I'm just going to add that when the microorganism Alcaligenes Eutrophus is placed in the suitable medium, it multiplies until a nutrient is removed (for example, nitrogen). After this it ceases multiplying and begins to construct the desired polymer.

    nuclear chem

Honestly, I know very little about positron emission. Don't be confused about these two types. For the HSC you only need to know about the "normal" beta radiation - that is, electron radiation.

    nuclear chem

Gamma radiation is not expressed in radioactive decay equations. It is never emitted on its own, but rather accompanies beta radiation in the radioactive decay of certain radioisotopes such as technetium-99m and cobalt-60. Positron emission is a type of beta decay, sometimes referred to as...

    Hair straightening

You can buy a GHD. It's a lot faster and more effective than most straighteners. They say it won't damage your hair, but pfft - anything that hot damages your hair. If you're going to use it everyday, I think you're better off chemically straightening it.

    Knocking off Ruse

What keeps them on top is not only their learning strategies, but also the many top students from other schools who transfer at the end of year 10. I reckon once they're number one, it'll be hard for them to come down again. You might diss them for awhile, but if you're offered a chance to...

Ext. Eng - drop it, or not?

I dropped E1 during the second term of year 12. Like you, I loved it in year 11 and was quite good at it. Then when year 12 started, I suddenly became completely lost. Our topic was Crime Fiction and while the films/texts were interesting, I couldn't make myself understand anything beyond the...

    Hair straightening

If you want it done properly, you'll have to pay the price. A few of the girls at my school had their hair straightened at lower prices, but the quality was really bad. The hair was straight, but it lost its shine and looked extremely dry.

    Bonds

Sigma bonds (σ-bonds) are bonds where there is no nodal plane containing the line segment between the two bonded species. Pi bonds (π bonds) are chemical bonds with a single nodal plane containing the line segment between the two bonded species. Delta bonds (Δ bonds) are bonds which contain...
