(x^2+3x-4) = (x+4)(x-1) sub x= -4 and x = 1 into the equation and equate it to 0. you then have simulatenous equations for a and b. once you find that, use factors of 36 and sub into the polynomial and then just use sum of roots/products etc. to find the roots. if you're still lost, ill post...
