for i) if a b c are angles of a triangle, they add up to 180. hence tan(a+b+c) = tan(180) = 0 from the right hand side, the denominator can't be zero, so the numerator must equal zero

None of those solutions are 2U, and even 3U never requires you to come up with your own substitution (that's 4U), they always give it to you

The topics aren't very different - They're just an extension of 2 unit concepts and so exposes you to wide variety of harder questions, effectively making the "simplistic" questions in 2u much easier.
