    READ ME: Science degree FAQs

Hi, I recieved a call yesterday from a girl asking if she could combine Adv Science with law. The answer is NO. End of story. prosaic: was that you? She was also asking about pharmacology. The official line is that Adv Science can only be taken by itself, or combined with Arts (ie. Adv...

Not the commerce one. The science one. Same bureaucracy and procedures, different faculty.

B science or B med science?

Lol okay. I consider them all 'biochem', thats what I refer to them as. Really, I see them as Biochem 2A and 2B, as opposed to molecular biology. Each to his/her own.

B science or B med science?

Okay. You didn't mention BIOC2101, I assumed you were talking about BIOC2201. But yes, he explicitly said there would be no questions on plant biochemistry in the BIOC2101 final, but I learnt it anyway, I suspected there would be questions regardless.:)

B science or B med science?

Well then, obviously you weren't listening. I recall him saying that his plant biotech lectures would have a question or two (in the multi-choice section). In response to the original poster: you can make B Science very similar, by picking the same subjects as a Medical Science degree. To...

    Obtaining ID Cards

Re: ID Cards available from 16th Jan (old students) That is called a card holder & lanyard. Speaking of ID cards, I still haven't got mine, despite being at uni multiple times during the last month or two.

    science/arts combined

Re: science/arts combined, subjects to choose Under HECS. HECS will only support you for 192UOC for Sci/Arts, anything over becomes full-fee. Contact Student Central if you need further clarification.

    Taking Rolls in Lectures

Yes, the BIOS streams are repeats. Generally, unless the lectures are repeats, you should stick to one stream. Thinking of skipping lectures already are we?

    unsw credit point transfer

Sorry guys, I'd like to point out here at the university, these things take time. You will probably realise that each subject has to be checked by whoever is responsible for it, for you to recieve an advanced standing exemption. This may entail calling up the university you are transferring...

    Difference between bscience + b sci/b arts

BScience/BArts is a full-time 4 year program, and 192UOC is required, no geneds needed. In this program, you will need to complete 84UOC in science, 84UOC in arts and the remaining 24UOC can come from either science or arts(consider them electives). ellie*: I am not aware of the rule that...

    lonely @ O week

Yeah some random med student started talking to me in the steam room (aka sauna, not quite) in the Unigym. Actually, I've had a few conversations with randoms in that steam room. Sounds wierd, but its not. Otherwise, I agree with sunny. You might meet a few new people, but unless you get...

    UNSW Chemistry Bridging Course...

Ouch. Well, I hope she's not being too evil to you all. I can't exactly praise her teaching techniques. She turns up 30 minutes late to the tutorials, then demands we show our tutorial work, and if you haven't done it, you betta run! Then she calls off the tutorial occasionally, she...

Question regarding doing 27 uoc in one semester

Yeah, with regards to workload, most people find that 24 units is pretty demanding, as in its full-time. Generally, those students that are allowed to overload have demonstrated a history of performing well (read: > distinction average). I for one, will probably never overload again (30UOC is...

    Plans declaration??

Yeah its best to declare by second year. Just give them a bit of time to process it;). I recommended that this first-year don't declare since if he/she changes major(which is quite possible), they'll have to declare it again - which is just wasting their own time.

    Swimming at UNSW

Swimming squad I might join this year. As for the UNSW Lifestyle Centre aka gym, 10-visit casual pass is $26 (Frigid.. where you get $22 from), and a 1 month bronze membership to the pool area is $33(unlimited visits). Just for your info, it is a 50metre heated swimming pool, split into...

Question regarding doing 27 uoc in one semester

I wouldn't bother. First year science students are not allowed to overload. Period. If you really want to try, drop into the Science Student Centre(Webster Building Rm128) and have a chat to us, and ask nicely if you can overload, although your chances are virtuall zero.

    quicky

I think the rule is 12UOC gen eds total.. No more than 6UOC from a single faculty in geneds. Only one (1) mainstream course(6UOC) may be taken as a gened, the two others must be 3UOC courses.

    Question about Science/Education

Shouldn't have a problem. You might possibly have a problem with the online enrolment system saying you haven't met the prerequisite, but speak to the maths department and you'll be fine.
