Probably the most basic question that I should've asked in Yr8, but in the HSC, is it necessary to label the axes (1,2,3,4......)? Coz I find that in the exam it's just a waste of time. Is it sufficient to leave the lines blank, label X,Y and then just write the necessary points?

on the topic of boring/exciting maths subjects, i need ur opinions. i'm accelerating 2/3U...in 2U i'm averaging near 100%, and in 3U i'm on around 87%. i'm not too sure whether to do 4U next year though. i'm finding 2U a bit boring and monotonous now and i'd rather do interesting topics. but...

IMO, if u do Ext 2 maths it should be worth 50, as an addition to 2U and Ext 1. I'm doing well in 2U, but in Ext 1 i have a fair bit of competition and i average around 80%. so the fact that i would have to sacrifice my 2U mark to do Ext 2 discourages me from doing it. i'd probably be better off...

how did it get "scaled up"? schools record raw exam marks. and was this for 2U or Ext 1? coz 109 is a lot of people for Ext 1 (that'd be just about my whole grade = impossible for my school)

schools should probably offer accelerated courses for all subjects....check out the numbers (of both students and teachers available) and then c if they can run the course. my school only has accel. maths - i wonder if many schools accelerate english? haven't heard anything about accel. english.

if i wanted to do a course that only need 90, and i got 99.6 i'd probably still stick with the original course. i don't think i'd do medicine or law for the hell of it.

aren't they just the syllabus dot points for 8.3.5??? i think i did those in class time, coz the teacher was away and we had summarise all the syllabus dot points for h/w. all the answers are in chemistry contexts.... :)

i agree. there's extension history, so i don't see a reason why they shouldn't have ext chemistry/physics. and i wish there was ext. economics - they used to have 3U eco and 3U business, but they scrapped them. and with the 2U of english....again, i have to agree. old hsc - didn't have to be...

do most schools finish the course by that time? coz if a catholic school decides to use the cssa trial and they haven't finished the course, then they'd be in a bad position - it would give a significant advantage to past accelerants who have done the work that others haven't.

i know it sounds weird, but i did better in yr11 than in yr10 in maths :) after doing a lot of calculus problems, it becomes second nature really......calculus applies to most of the topics in the hsc, so u kind of get used to it after a while.....and after u've finished geometrical apps of...

don't ask me how he knows.....he came first in the state though, so i guess it's not that important.

i'm currently accelerating 2U and Ext 1 Maths. I did Yrs 9 & 10 work in Yr9, and then I finished the Prelim. course in Yr10, and right now I'm doing the HSC in Yr11 - I'm currently up to SHM in Ext 1 and I've finished the 2U course.

aggregrate is based on a sum of scaled marks, so in SAM 48/50 is an aligned mark, which might make the result go a bit off what it's meant to.

does the scaling take care of the increased intelligence of the candidature? coz otherwise wouldn't the people in the "less intelligent" years have an advantage of sorts? (if they were smart)

Does it generally have an accuracy of +/- 0.5? Just curious. Actually, I notice that the UAI for 2001 is always considerably higher than 2002 and 2003. Is there any reason for this?
