I've never actually heard of the Fundamentals course, but why not do it? You can always drop it if it's too boring.
Also, do Advanced if you can, and drop down to Standard if you can't handle the workload.

Odd you're doing it so early, would have expected you to do it in Semester 2.
I actually started typing up my PD notes, but then I just started handwriting them off the computer. So now I'm just typing up everything on each section then summarising when I handwrite.
I think sometimes handwriting notes is better, esp in science when you copy and paste diagrams, you don't...
The workload
Really depends on you. I find that English has the most workload for me, mainly because 1) I suck at it and 2) I'm not particularly interested in it. Others will breeze adv without a problem and can probably write a practice essay the night before and get a 14/15.
