Re: Official BOS Study Meat v2.0
meet box FTW
this is why you guys should come to Usyd
(jks, eating a meatbox is actually quite time-consuming, not very neat either, regardless of its health effects
besides, I'm not even going )
from what I read in the library's website, there'd be...
Re: Official BOS Study Meat v2.0
I'm plagiarising your latex code:
\forall \forall, \exists \exists
PS: mathematicians are not very good at making jokes
Re: Official BOS Study Meat v2.0
as far as I can see, there are quite a few people helping with maths
so I'd guess we may need more tutors in other subjects

are these 3 meeting rooms the ones you're talking about?
since x=3/2 is a double root, then P(3/2)= (3/2)^4-2(3/2)^3+c^4=0 ,we'd get c^4=27/16
[I expanded everything, P(x)=x^4-2x^3+c^4]
then P(x)=x^4-2x^3+27/16 has a double root x=3/2
let the other 2 roots be a and b
a+b+3/2+3/2=2 ==> a+b=-1
ab(3/2)*(3/2)=27/16 ==> ab=3/4
so a...
thanks for reminding me
it doesn't always have to be a double root, but the multiplicity must be even
for example, f(x)=x^4
but in this case, it just happens to be a double root (since quadruple root doesn't work, and it's a quartic)
but I think you'll need to justify why it's only a double root
not triple, or quadruple
[find P'(x) , P''(x), P'''(x) ]
PS: it could only be either double or quadruple, since they're touching
the black one is the actual graph
if it's a single root(red curve), then it must intersect y=0 again,
giving us another real solution, condradicting the fact that there's only 1 point where they touch
solve simlutaneouly , as suggested by 4025808
you'd obtain the quartic in the question
circle TOUCHES hyperbola implies that there is a real solution that's a DOUBLE root
EDIT: it's doesn't , see #11
then from your graph, you can see that point must the be ONLY place where they...
Re: HSC 2012 Marathon :)
what I picture in my mind when I see the word 'ladder'
when was the last time you've seen one of these:
I guess one could make a somewhat a variation of the question, using the 1st one
Re: Official BOS Study Meat v2.0
travelling overseas during the Winter Holiday for university students
(which coincides with the upcoming school holiday)
So I guess I'll probably join you guys next time
and thanks for Carrotsticks organising this event

obviously, MX2 is quite different from MX1 in terms of both course content and the difficulty of exam questions
one might argue that you may end up with a higher scaled mark(thus ATAR as well) in the end
even though you might not be as confident in your understanding of the subject
And I...
