Interview - Leadership, Role Model Experience

To start doing extra-curricular activities now is a bit late...and by a bit I mean VERY FREAKING... you won't be doing it long enough to gain anything from it other than to say that you did it.... and if they ask you anything about it in the interview, chances are you won't have experienced...

    how are uai/umat/inteview calculated?

The former - they have a quota. They combine your uai/umat/interview into some kind of "overall" mark and then take the top "X" amount of people from that list.

    UMAT Discussion

Re: UMAT Registration Also depends how far above the interview cutoffs you are. If you JUST scrape these, you are incredibly unlikely to get in with merely a "decent" interview. But I think it also depends on the difficulty of the year's UMAT. Obviously if it's an easy UMAT then the...

Interview - Leadership, Role Model Experience

From my personal point of view, what you do outside of school makes or breaks your interview. If you've made it to the interview stage, they know you're smart - they don't want to hear more about your school results. It's a bit of a killer that you're neither really involved in any leadership...

    bonded, csp, full-fee paying

Yeah. You are committed to an "area of workforce shortage" for a period of time equal to the length of your uni degree. You CAN choose where you go and who knows where will be a district of workforce shortage once you graduate.

    Medical Interviews

Chemistry WAS a prerequisite for Monash last year but I'm not sure whether this has changed. Monash offered a bridging course for Biology, not for Chemistry. I know several people who couldn't apply to Monash last year because they had not done it. But having said that, I don't think its a...

    bonded, csp, full-fee paying

If my information is correct, students who are on full-fee places are taken care of purely by the university i.e. you are paying the money directly to them. As such, there is no guarantee that you will get an internship upon graduation (since the government has no ties with you). On the other...

    PLEASE Help About Medicine!

I don't think Adelaide would be allowed to favour applicants from South Australia, and especially since you will be a rural applicant. In fact, when I went down to Adelaide for my interview, I was told by a family friend about the uproar that was surrounding the fact that SO FEW South...

    PLEASE Help About Medicine!

I would consider a UMAT score in the mid 180s to be competitive. But obviously the higher the better (and people have gotten in with much less). The "easiest" uni to get into depends on your personal strengths. i.e. Do you do well in interviews but struggle academically or do you have a top...

    Medicine in 2009

Well it's more like the MEDIAN is usually 99.50... subtle yet massive difference between average and median. I know several people who have gotten in with as "low" as 90 and I don't think that "average" could have been made up by other people no matter how many people over 99.50 there are...

    What you hate about UNSW

Woah...ease up on the internationals.... Generally speaking, they're some of the friendliest people you'll meet - they don't have all that much choice cos they're unlikely to know many people

    did i pick bad subjects?

We did...? Was that in core or in an option? I remember hearing perhaps one or two sentences MAX about MRI in phys. Nevertheless, I stand by my view that HSC Physics was worthless for everything except pulling up my UAI =P

career inc travel, health-service oriented, med?

A lot depends on what countries you want to travel to. If you are interested in travelling to countries in the developing world then I would think that there are quite a lot of opportunities through organisations such as MSF. I'm pretty sure you can do specialist training overseas, but some...

    did i pick bad subjects?

Lots of people didn't do physics (and the concepts covered in HSC Physics are rubbish and will not help you in any way with the Medicine course). I would say however that there are only a minority that didn't do chemistry - for example, it is a prerequisite for Monash. Having said that, I know a...

Desirable number of units for the HSC

Re: Number of units Definitely 12 - gives you some insurance because there will always be surprises in the HSC exams. Personally, in the real HSC I did a lot better than I expected in one exam and worse in another subject in which I topped my class in school assessments (and didn't count it).

    Medical Interviews

The UMAT is definitely a step that is underestimated by a lot of people esp. as in many schools it falls during or the week before trials. Look at it this way - you only have one chance for the UMAT, if you screw it up royally you have ABSOLUTELY no hope. At least with the HSC, you can make up...

    Lectopia

Whether you can listen to an iLecture depends on whether you're getting taught in CATS rooms and some lecturers are too lazy to put up their powerpoints presentations.

    Medical Interviews

Mmm first anatomy prac tomorrow with cadaver.... when it first gets revealed I swear I'm just going to watch people's faces turn white instead of concentrating on the actual thing =P But it's not so much about "memorising" stuff about the human body per se, but knowing and understanding it...
