    Comparison of Multiple-Choice Answers

1.C (Petroleum/Crude Oil is the main way.. via cat-cracking) 2.A (Concentrated sulfuric acid used in dehydration, dilute in hydration) 3.B (Seemed like the only one with neutron-proton ratio reasonable) 4.C 5.B 6.B (Gotta - 4.H20 since its condensation polymerisation) 7.A 8.B 9.C 10.C 11.C...

IMHO, Very very very easy test. Very easy. But hey, what does my opinion count for :D

    Determining Anode from Cathode

Since its a galvanic cell, the more reactive metal (as dictated by the data sheet) will be oxidised. And as well all know, OIL RIG.

    Hsc 2004 Mc

Incorrect reasoning. Since there are no fossil fuel based alternatives, there is nothing to compare to. Thus d) does not satisfy your reasoning and is not the answer. Biodegradability is the one to look out for with biopolymers. :)

what raw marks you need for band 5/6 (merged)

Re: what raw marks you need for band 5/6 People always have and always will complain about the test being hard. This is a given.

Error in answer to HSC 2003 Q5?

The process you use it you filter off the other stuff first so that you can actually evaporate stuff out. No use evaporating if youve got a big pile of crud in there.

what raw marks you need for band 5/6 (merged)

Re: what raw marks you need for band 5/6 It would be ludicrous if they stopped marking at the lines. The lines barely have enough space as it is!

    Few Questions!

You only have to learn two cells: Either the dry cell or lead acid cell vs any other cell. Lavoisier: Said that acids contained oxygen Davy: Said that acids contained replaceable hydrogen Arrhenius: Said that acids ionised to produce H+ ions in solution, whilst bases ionised to produce OH-...

    Heat of combustion and whatevv

Well, in the markers notes for 2001 they commented on this issue. It doesnt really matter a whole lot, but they just noticed that a lot of people decided not to use the data sheet value for specific heat capacity of water, ie 4.18x10^3 Jkg-1K-1 instead using 4.18 Jg-1K-1 This basically means...

    Stopsign's Chemistry Marathon (2006)

Dont worry, I had this problem last week :) Basically, pH depends on both the strength of the acid AND the concentration of the acid. Think about it this way: Lets say you have 0.1 mol/L HCl fully ionised. Its pH is 1. But when you add more water, the concentration of the acid reduces. For...

    Stopsign's Chemistry Marathon (2006)

    c1V1=c2V2 pH means c1=0.01, v1 = 0.01, v2=0.1 thus, 0.01x0.01 = c2 x 0.1 c2 = 0.001 pH = 3

    calculate concentration ??

First we calculate the number of mols that are in the original solution: cV=n nCuSO4= 0.25 x 0.05 = 0.0125 mols in the solution Then we work out how many mols of the copper was taken out from the zinc nCu = m/mm nCu = 0.325/63.546 = 5.11 x 10^-3 mols Now we minus original amount of mols from...

    assumed knowledge - HELP!

Solubility rules don't need to be remembered to succeed in chemistry, but they are certainly helpful. It'll help you to understand 'why' some substances are used and others are not, for instance in the salt bridge in electrolytic cells (KNO3 since they are soluble).

    Lost My Prac Book!!!

I'm sure the notes on the BoS homepage will have the pracs in them, so you might like to check there. If that fails, go to hsc.csu.edu.au/chemistry and look for pracs in there. The pracs are floating all over the net most likely.
