Using MX2 skills in Physics exam?

Ok sweet just making sure. There is a lot of fairly simplistic maths they don't like in physics haha (cough cough basic calculus)

Using MX2 skills in Physics exam?

What about much more simplistic things that extension 2 like the quadratic formula? There are many projectile questions that are made much easier using it, but will they mark us down for it?

    Mathematics Extension 1 Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Wait really only 2 people got the projectile q in the ex1 hsc? Imo the question before the projectile one was harder

    Mathematics Extension 1 Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Yeah I don't even remember if the paper as a whole was difficult, I just associate 2013 with that binomial question which isn't horrible but is a lot harder than what you normally see im 3u these days lol

    Mathematics Extension 1 Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Agreed completely. 2014 was quite an easy year as well. 2013 and 2018 are the hardest after the split in multiple choice on the other hand. I'm thinking we will get an easier paper this year, but who knows.

    Mathematics Extension 1 Exam Predictions/Thoughts

The last question of 2012 was a weird 3d trig related rates one

    Mathematics Extension 1 Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Yeah fair point, it probably won't happen. Just saying it wouldn't surprise me with how much they like geometry in HSC. Also I don't actually think circle geo has ever been the last question of an HSC, unless you count 2009 which was slightly different anyway

    Mathematics Extension 1 Exam Predictions/Thoughts

Circle geometry. Not gonna lie those hsc writers seem to like their geometry lately.

Anyone else in a small class for MX1 / MX2??

I haven't looked at the solutions yet, as I don't want to stress myself out before hsc ends. I got everything out though, and felt good about the exam after finishing, so its just dumb errors I'm worried about, but I was able to pick about 4 of those up and fix them, so I'm hoping there were no...

Anyone else in a small class for MX1 / MX2??

Yeah you have a point there. I personally wish in 4u we looked at the epsilon delta definition of the limit, but conceptually thats definitely above the course. I guess linear algebra is more proof based and rigorous than calculus though, and not a whole lot can be done with it without this...

Anyone else in a small class for MX1 / MX2??

I mean you can do dot products without matrices, using just the vectors thesmelves, which I believe is done in multivariable calc courses if linear algebra is for some reason not taken, but yeah its a bit weird to introduce only the concept of vectors without expanding further into...

Anyone else in a small class for MX1 / MX2??

Lol no. Matrices aren't even in the syllabus. I suspect they couldn't go as far as determinants and eigenvectors/values due to the geometrical intuition behind it, and also just how different linear algebra is to the rest of highschool mathematics, but yeah I agree that at least basic matrices...

Anyone else in a small class for MX1 / MX2??

Honestly most of the new syllabus is the same as the old, so everything relating to complex numbers, polynomials, integration and parts of mechanics/harder 3u in older papers can be used for revision. The vector stuff is a bit new, but from what I've seen reading the syllabus it looks fairly...

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Ah ok great. Thanks for that, you stopped my freakout.

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

When you put it that way I think we'll be ok. We got the individual probabilities for A winning and B winning, which were not given, so if we got those correctly obviously we couldn't have fudged it, and idk about you but I put my reasoning in as well as to why this method works.

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

We don't really know, but we are worried they can.

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Lets just hope the markers have enough mathematical sense to see the logic in each different way, which I would hope they would. We ended up with the exact same expressions for probability, just using different mathematical tools to limiting sums.

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

Yep. It would be absolutely ridiculous if they didn't mark us right for this, but I'm scared they are gonna do it lol. Like you don't need an infinite sum to express the probability, and in fact our way probably shows a greater understanding of probability.

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

I did it by getting the probability of A winning on either side of an equation, i.e A= x + Ay, which could be done because the pribability of A winning after both A and B had their first turn was exactly the same, and then equating the probability from that. I did the same thing for the...

My solutions to the 2019 Mathematics Extension 2 Paper

I thought the exact same thing about this years paper. Yes the questions were fairly easy, but it was honestly so unlike any other 4u paper, with a lot of bizarre computational questions that were easy to make dumb mistakes on. I don't like that they do it that way, it more tests accuracy than...
