    mildly health-related tattoo!

radial artery love. (except where it's positioned, only the right atria really beats. aww, poor heart. poor cardiac function even though it tries so hard) ps. i'm hiding under my doona, not wearing some kind of strange apparel

i've sanded enough caments for one day, thanks.

    nursing advice please

I swapped from Newcastle Uni to UTS because the course structure was much better, BUT the Newie course structure has changed quite a bit so i can't compare the two now. Basically, I think all the unis are too light on clinical practice but at least UTS gets the 1st years to be on the wards 1 day...

    Missed the UMAT

fuck, my powers of observation are useless - i just noted you already said it was postgrad. i only assumed it was undergrad because the students i've met from Broome all look too young to already have degrees! ha.

    unsw medicine - transferring

as far as i was aware, as long as you have had a killer UAI and pretty much get all HDs at uni, it doesn't matter what course you do before the transfer. you could do an arts degree and swap over if your marks are good enough.

    Missed the UMAT

ooh, apologies! i saw Bond is part of the UMAT consortium, but didn't see Notre Dame - does it use the UMAT but it's not part of the consortium somehow?

    Missed the UMAT

nope, sorry mate. UMAT is just the once a year and it's a requirement for most of the unis - HOWEVER, have you looked at some of the private unis (Bond in QLD, Notre Dame in WA) and JCU that don't use UMAT? you might be able to just scrape in with their application periods. just be aware that...

    nursing advice please

it depends on the health service - some only have one recruitment period for the 3 intakes per year, so if you miss that you have to wait until next year. better to contact the area health service you want to work with and find out what their situation is.

    med interviews

gosh, do you know? nice to know people are keeping tabs on me. no, i'm not. while i was considering i realised i only had uni marks that were decent enough for UNCLE anyway - not that i think the course is bad, for course + lifestyle i would probably prefer it, but it certainly decreases your...

    med interviews

ha, no! i'm sure some bonded students would love it if it were so! you're restricted to only work in certain RRMA areas (but they aren't quite as rural as the MRBS) and that's only after you've finished all basic training and you have a fellowship - so about 6 years postgrad.

    med interviews

the 3 years they do spend with pts might be enough, but the problem is that they said there were people who made it to 4th year and then suddenly realised they had no idea how to interract with pts and didn't want to be drs so they dropped out of the course! why do you think the bonded places...

    med interviews

the only B.Med degree i knew a little bit about was UNCLE because i did my first year of uni there and met some people doing med, so i assumed all the unis had a similar model that had students out on the wards and at least interviewing pts from 1st year. then i met some 5th years from UWA and i...

    Graduate Entry Medicine for Pharmacist

i worked with a general surgeon who had done pharmacy first - wanted to make big money working for a pharmaceutical company but then realised it was pretty heartless so he did grad med at sydney.

anyone know of any good (free!) sites with examples of breath/heart sounds?

    med interviews

i have this document about interview advice - i downloaded it from the med students online forum a couple of years ago, i think. has a stack of questions to think about. just be aware that the unis all do interviews differently - some just sort of want to have a chat and see who you are...

Have a heart. Study Medicine at UWS

maybe i should apply to do that when i move back to syd - i would be such an arsehole of a pt, though.

    nursing advice please

[/LIST]right! - fairly vague question, i'll move to the others - TAFEs are all TAFEs, they have the same content in the courses (much unlike unis). at TAFE you can either do your AIN (assistant in nursing) or EN (enrolled nurse) training via a facility - you need to be employed by someone...
