    This cannot be right.

    - Board of Studies NSW 39.87% is not one half. What do I mean? Scaling does not determine how many people get high HSC marks.

    This cannot be right.

How? Wouldn't the students get the same HSC marks even if scaling didn't exist?

    HSC Maths Exams

Why are the HSC mathematics examinations (excluding General Mathematics) not marked out of 100? Why did the Board set them as 120, 84 and 120?

    Mathematics vs. General Maths

True, but he also goes to Ruse and takes 4 units of maths. To him: did you mean 3 hours for Maths alone, or 3 hours including Extension Maths? 3 hours a night is a lot of work to put it given how people on BoS have suggested 'anyone can do 2U'.

    Mathematics vs. General Maths

Does "HSC mark" in UAC's A3 table mean "aligned overall HSC mark" (an average of the moderated assessment mark and aligned HSC exam mark) or "raw HSC examination mark"? Isn't three hours of homework and/or study a night for the Mathematics course alone a tad excessive? Maybe if you take 3 units...

    best scaling subjects?

Why would you do something you hate?
  7. S

    best scaling subjects?

Didn't you deliberately choose and keep subjects you hate (mathematics and physics) because you knew that they scaled well?

    best scaling subjects?

No, the 99th percentile is the top 1% of the state. Scoring a mark in chemistry that placed you in the 99th percentile would result in also scoring a high scaled mark.

    This cannot be right.

I have heard that even if you do 4 units of English, the 2 units that will always be counted are English (Advanced). English Extension 1 and English Extension 2 may be counted but they do not take priority over English (Advanced), even if the marks in the extension courses are better, apparently.

    Scale Down?

I'm glad that I chose Mathematics. I say that now ... maybe I will think differently at the end of September when I have finished the Year 11 course!

How was the first day of year 11?

I said it was what I believe. You don't go to SBHS so you wouldn't know any better than me. LOL at your comment. Nice melodrama.

What's your worst/best memory of high school and why?

Really? Did you do this for a school assessment or was it for the actual external HSC examination?
  14. S

How was the first day of year 11?

Why? Is it because you don't like the teacher? I'm really looking forward to Hospitality. Congratulations on your 1000th post!

    Scale Down?

He is taking 12 units. It doesn't matter if he does General because it may not count.
  16. S

How was the first day of year 11?

Well I believe every SBHS (Sydney Boys High School) student has to take English Extension in Year 11, so they would have to take either Mathematics Extension or 1 unit of Photography. There aren't any other extension courses you can take in Year 11.

    Thai food

I can't believe no one has mentioned Masamun Beef Curry! I love it! Melt in your mouth beef, soft potatoes and a sweet, creamy sauce.

    Serious Help Picking Subjects

Yes it's true that (some) people work harder in Year 11. If you go to France and immerse yourself in the language (i.e. don't speak English, just speak French), yes your French will get a lot better. It sounds like you don't want to choose chemistry, so I recommend not doing it.

    Syllabus development

LOL! Am I right to presume the that you don't want it to be implemented?

    String Theory

I have no idea what string theory is. I believe Sheldon tried to prove it on an expedition to Antarctica or another cold place in The Big Bang Theory.
