ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS .. thoughts and opinions?

The history is relevant insofar as saying that Australia has a long history of immigration and that immigration has made us what we are today. The history is irrelevant when you make the specific comparison that convicts were boat people. I reject the relevance of the manner in which...

Woman avoids jail after 'very drunk' sex with boy, 14

I didn't tell you anything about the individual. Only that they were the same age and a man. So you are explicit in your double-standard. Women raping boys is OK and no lasting harm is done but men raping girls (or boys) is NOT-OK and does lasting damage? How can you possibly justify that...

Woman avoids jail after 'very drunk' sex with boy, 14

If a 41 year old man got a 14 year old girl (or boy) drunk and had sex with them would you have a problem with it?

ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS .. thoughts and opinions?

As an introduction I thought I'd paraphrase Nolan: I would be more comfortable living in a country with boat people than I am living in one populated by xenophobic bogans who would send them home. My thoughts on the issue: Depending on political persuassion the nomenclature usually used to...

Woman avoids jail after 'very drunk' sex with boy, 14

What an excellent example of double-standards.... I wonder if the judge actually high-fived the 14 year old for scoring with a 41 year-old??

    The place of private healthcare

You are correct that generally speaking I am opposed to welfare, especially corporate welfare. In the case of individual welfare it is possible to make a strong case that changes be phased in to minimise the transistional/structural impacts of the change. This is because individuals have a...

Should conscription be re-introduced in 21st Century Australia?

Lets just give up our soveriegnty and have a one-world Government??? Seriously, a nuclear armed UN??? Lets put a nuclear arsenal in the hands of a group which includes dictators, oppressive regimes, terrorist supporters, so on and so forth....

    The place of private healthcare

Generator is correct that Govt funding is by it's very nature subject to the ongoing review and change, I see no reason for Govt to be especially gentle in removing welfare from businesses who have suckled at it's teat. Would you seriously argue that a Govt continue to fund bad programs or...

Taking the King's shilling (welfare and regulation)

The unemployed are an excellent example for the affirmative case imo. To offer them welfare but not regulate them at all (jobsearch requirements) would be lunacy (waste of money). And to regulate them (jobsearch requirements) but not provide welfare would be punitive at best.

    The place of private healthcare

I think it is conceivable, indeed I've been known to broadly argue that, the availability of abortions and euthanasia is in the public interest. I understand Team Freedom as being fairly explicit about 'those in power' (or other people generally) making decisions on behalf of individuals...

Taking the King's shilling (welfare and regulation)

Almost all of them. When you consider that welfare is an all encompassing term for Government hand-outs. Albeit in some cases the welfare received is equal to or greater than the tax paid. For example while unemployed individuals on newstart don't generally pay tax, most other direct welfare...

Taking the King's shilling (welfare and regulation)

This issue has been touched on in a couple of recent threads so I thought it rated it's own thread: If you accept Government money must you accept Government regulation? No: We are compelled to pay tax (under threat of kidnap at gunpoint :p) and it is unrealistic for us to resist this...

    The place of private healthcare

You have a point. But I would remind you that private schools are still required to follow a Government curriculum - including for example teaching safe sex and evolution. There ain't no such thing as a free lunch. Accept Government money and accept Government regulation, two sides of the same...

    Ruddkip's Word Police

Fucking ridiculous. There is no other way to describe this. Printing allowance are indeed taxpayer money but Rudd/DoFD seem to be forgetting that Liberal voters are also taxpayers. The allowances are paid to MPs and Senators who have been freely elected by taxpaying citizens. If taxpayers don't...
