Job Prospects with a Commercial Law Major?

Id say given you already have the job (congrats anyway) it's probably more about what will help set you up longer term. Do you have any thoughts on whether you plan to do CA or Masters of Tax? For what it's worth you'll most likely do at least a minor equivalent in business law just to meet...

Do I need a laptop for uni?

Use a notepad and print out the materials that you need. IMO if I were doing uni again the only thing I would want is an iPad or tablet to carry around electronic versions of the course material and access to the net. I would still take notes manually.

What's better for an investment banker? comm/eco, comm/sci or comm/adv sci (stats)

Re: What's better for an investment banker? comm/eco, comm/sci or comm/adv sci (stats I actually don't know how much a big data role/data scientist (or whatever they're called these days) make... ... but I was thinking along the lines of other roles which support front office e.g. research...

What's better for an investment banker? comm/eco, comm/sci or comm/adv sci (stats)

Re: What's better for an investment banker? comm/eco, comm/sci or comm/adv sci (stats That range is also consistent with non pure front office roles too in some banks. It's pretty good times.

    What laptop should I buy?

One thing you'll need to think about is whether you want a traditional laptop, or one of the newer hybrid style devices. Whilst in theory the hybrid devices sound great, after owning one for about a month now, I've come to realise there are certain limitations even though there are huge...

    Questions about tablets

If you can try to spring for at least an iPad Mini 2 - it may not have the Touch ID of Mini 3 but at least performance wise it should be good for a lot longer.

    What laptop should I buy?

Given you are considering Chromebooks I assume your budget is <$500 so Macbook is out of the question. If you could I would suggest stretching to any ultrabook or Macbook Air given these are ideal for uni use and are not too heavy to carry around. There are a few atom based tablet/hybrid PCs eg...

    Bach of commerce

As far as I know, we haven't screened by university- or at least, when I was doing the screening many years ago I didn't.

Job Prospects with a Commercial Law Major?

Commercial law as in a major within Commerce/Business (like business law) is very different to real law. I would be surprised if you even got any credit in real law for what is covered in these subjects given they are more like an introduction to the topics to give you broad appreciation of how...

What laptop and hard drive should I get?

I think it's more just the perception and when you're in a rush, every second counts. It's the fast SSD which is what makes my old 2011 Macbook Air 11" still feel relatively brisk despite it's age. Not sure which uni you're at but at least at UNSW, there was uniwide which was always...

    Pros/Cons of 10 units

If it's your worse subject and you aren't committed to it, then drop it IMO. I put in a lot of effort into business studies but other subjects scaled so much better that it only half counted (I did 11 units) - I'm glad i didn't drop 3u maths even though I was barely passing.

What laptop and hard drive should I get?

I use the automatic backup apps on my computers which links to folders and on my iPhone/iPad. It does depend on internet speed but realistically what will piss you off the most is losing work (assignments) or photos. Everything else (music/movies/etc) you can usually acquire again in the future...

    How do teachers detect plagarism?

This. In uni it gets a lot more serious where everything gets checked by the system but in all honesty, high school classes are much smaller so it's a lot easier for a teacher to detect something doesn't sound right or consistent.

What car do you drive? (the new one)

Are you sure it's not driving style because those differences are definitely far greater than the norm!

What car do you drive? (the new one)

I much prefer the alternative of being able to shift or hold hands.

What laptop and hard drive should I get?

I don't think SSD is overkill for a portable laptop at uni. Having to wait an extra 30-60 seconds just for the PC to boot up to check one thing (e.g. you forgot to download the lecture slides off Vista, you need to edit one thing in your notes, you need to check your email/calendar for where you...

    Girls who look at me

Am I the only one missing the obvious question of what your intentions/objectives are (despite this being in the L&R board)? I interpreted the original post as "I saw some girls who might've been checking me out. Am I meant to do something?"...

    Ace your internship (Big 4)

Impressive that you got to do a big 4 internship if you're not penultimate. Which firm was it? Glad you got a good experience out of it.

    Internships or Part-time employment

I'd say if you can intern at a place you actually want to start a proper career with - do that. Like you said, graduates are usually hired based on their potential (which is typically driven by personality, willingness/ability to learn, cultural fit, etc) as opposed to technical competence.
