How to be employed in anything other than fastfood?

Without ever working in a cafe myself but having friends who did, a lot of them aren't big enough to have a website running. The owner may have their email address listed somewhere but realistically your best bet is to walk up to the respective cafe/restaurant and ask them if they are hiring. Or...

    What is investment banking?

I personally think the direction the world is headed with the anti bankers mantra, IB will become less well paid and less glamorous (e.g. refer to European salary cap on bankers). That being said, those technical skills, personality traits and strong relationships will be utilised elsewhere and...

Appreciate your views on the topic but you're still basing this on what you *think* happens.

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

It's difficult to rely on the numbers here given that a lot of growth in accounting is through M&A/inorganic growth. That being said it'll be interesting to see how things change over the next decade. Great pro tip btw- that's how I learnt about which firms were offering cadetships back in the day!

There's two very different things- how you manage the team locally/internally with respect of your own organisation's culture, and how you work with clients. On one hand you need to be upfront/honest/direct but on the other, there's no harm in having a bit of empathy with how you communicate. I...

I've got a few friends who can do this really well- especially those who can simulate turbocharging and v-tec lol.

what are some decent paying jobs whilst studying at uni?

I'd say that challenge applies to Myer too in terms of getting hours outside of the busy periods at Christmas/New Years. If you can get a regular tutoring job privately then that could be a good steady source of income.

Need some help trawling through the Real Estate Iphone Apps?

I'm simple- I just use the Domain and Realestate app. Given that most properties are cross listed anyway it doesn't make much difference although Domain has some nice sync-ing features to keep a shortlist/etc.

    Bucket on M4 tonight

I felt like posting about a damn bucket which I was ranting on. Surprisingly no (obvious) damage to the Benz.

    Bucket on M4 tonight

FML. Was driving on M4 city bound near Silverwater exit when a plastic bucket flew onto the road. Car in front swerved left but by the time I saw it I couldn't because there was a car to my left. Bucket went under car at 90km/h and got jammed between front left wheel and underbody rendering...

    What have you eaten today?

Probably. The challenge is to maintain balance- or to sneak some in at appropriate moments when noone is watching. It depends on your role at the event though- if your'e the host, a guest, someone applying for a job/scholarship or just there for the free food.

Going for my P's in two weeks. Any advice?

Be careful and try to learn the route beforehand so you know where the stop signs are. If you make a mistake on the test don't get flustered. you're better off stopping a little bit over the line at say an intersection or roundabout; than to keep on going through if it's dangerous (and nearly...

    What have you eaten today?

Breakfast & morning tea at work for an 8am meeting: ... one would think all we do is eat free food at work. Anyway lunch was sandwiches/rolls (boring) and dinner was canapies/snacks/drinks. Quite difficult to take photos of peking duck wraps and the like.

    What have you eaten today?

Depends on the client. It was an Asian client so they understood it all too well. My Western clients on the other hand I probably wouldn't be pulling out the camera- although I did manage to get good shots at Flying Fish last week. It was a banquet menu and they served each of us...

Because accounting and actuarial are two very different fields. It would imply to me that manscux managed to skate through the interviews with a fake interest in accounting.

Whilst you work in an industry where you don't need to be collaborative and hence the group assessment is less relevant, for the professional services industry it is quite vital that people can work together. You raise valid points but at the end of the day it's how we work and hence it's quite...

Can't take all courses required for CPA qualification?

If you're an international student, wouldn't it make more sense to prep for a qualification where you intend to work in the future? And I'm a qualified CA. CA vs CPA debate really comes down to what you want to actually do. I'd say CA opens up more opportunities from both local (chartered...

Can't take all courses required for CPA qualification?

I never understood why someone would want a uni degree to say that someone majored in a language though- you don't need a degree or a uni qualification to be able to say you can speak <insert language> on a resume or job application. All it does it look bad on your transcript (unless you are...
