Re: HSC 2013 2U Marathon Good question... Took a lot of working out (which probably could have been avoided but oh well) ... Also, I wouldn't say my proof is very good but that's how it is haha

finding the maximum and minimum of trigonometry curves.

Also, is it pi/2 or pi/4, because your original post says pi/2?

finding the maximum and minimum of trigonometry curves.

Well, that's what I assumed the question meant. As sin(pi/2) is a constant i.e. 1. So if the t wasn't inside the brackets then the height of the water increase monotonically (keep on increasing as the time increases), which we know isn't possible because the tides increase and decrease.

I'm pretty sure it's right... If I'm wrong, someone please correct me :)

Re: HSC 2013 2U Marathon Sorry about that. :( However, the question didn't really ask for an explanation. Anyway, I tried doing the question above and my proof is a little bit 50/50, but I couldn't think of any other way to do it. I hope it is sufficient :) Cheers!

Yeah, I just had a look at it. Ch 8.9 Q16. It's not very well written, which is a bit unusual... :/ The answer is 74.7

Re: HSC 2013 2U Marathon No. Sorry, that was my bad drawing! The line corresponding to the 45degree angle should be lower than the first line (I had intended to draw it like that initially, but as you can see I forgot to). The length of the ladder is given by 'L' which is the same on both lines :)

    Rate of change question

I'm pretty sure Newton's rate of cooling is in three unit... I haven't learnt it yet so I dunno how to do it :/

Ok Cheers! Did my previous message send (regarding the current question on the 2U maths Marathon)?

Can you get better at maths

You're obviously very good at maths if you can understand every concept and apply every concept in 4 Unit maths! Don't worry and put too much pressure on yourself, as this may have an adverse effect on your abilities to execute 'higher level questions'.
