    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

I don't know the Melbournes for sure (feel free to PM me if you want to contribute it to my database- all anonymous) but the general range for mid-tiers/big4 so far is $30-$35k. The real differences I should add will be in the detail such as leave entitlements, textbook allowances, study grants...

    BSc/BComm jobs?

R&D Tax is a very specialised field. Only comment I'd have for Op is that doing a double degree might improve your chances of landing a grad role, it doesn't necessarily double it. Going for a Commerce job with a double degree background may give you more to talk about and a bit more SME status...

Even if all your units aren't credited, would you still want to transfer?

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Hard to say given there are any CAs out there in the world, and not all of them are necessarily in accounting roles, etc... But assuming they were, then it would definitely be more than $100k I'd say. This is pure speculation though- if you are really determined to find out there are various...

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

I think you should do a lot more research then because "um I like business" isn't really a good incentive to embark upon an extra 4-5 years of study PLUS work experience in a role which you may not actually want to do. If you do straight eng, you probably won't be eligible to enrol in CA...

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

As long as you meet the prerequisite subjects as required- you'll need to go onto the ICAA website and look for the approved tertiary courses list. On another note though, given you clearly are focussed on science, and you want to do an engo degree, why the interest in CA?

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

I think you've misunderstood where the CA fits in. You go to uni FIRST and do a relevant university degree majoring in accounting (and do a few other subjects as required by the ICAA). THEN once you've started working, you will be eligible to enrol in the CA Progam (which is run by the...

CA Program - Ask questions, get answers! (new and improved)

To become a CA you need to complete the technical program and have sufficient relevant work experience. To enrol in the technical program you need to have completed the prerequisite studies such as an undergraduate degree which is recognised by the Institute (e.g. B Commerce at UNSW majoring in...

    prereqs for buisness courses

Don't need extension but definitely doing 2u advance would help alot since statistics can be a challenge; as can the core subjects which require you to understand and apply differentiation/integration.

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

LOL... one day I should do a more detailed write up on what not to do/say in your interview. Here's another pointer for those reading along in detail- if you are going to mention you read the newspaper daily (and the fin, and a list of other publications), make sure you have something decent to...

    Favourite Covers/Remixes

LOL there are a few decent covers of that song (which I associate with Short Circuit 2 rather than Footloose), but I thought the Emery cover was interesting since it's such a contrast to the original. For the most part it's radio friendly.

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Do you mean right after you get your CA or for all people who are working and have a CA? MichelleV's comment is more the former rather than the latter I'd say.

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

I wouldn't go as far to say that it's an automatic culling at every firm, it definitely doesn't leave a very good impression. It's as bad as calling out the wrong firm name.

    Bankers/Investment Bankers Lifestyle

    1. You may move jobs for whatever reason and hence the place you live at may not be so close. 2. The industry isn't known to be the most steady especially in the current climate; do you really want a 25 year mortgage?! 3. Whilst the salary on your contract looks good, the amount you receive in...

    CADETSHIPS 2012 Discussion Thread

Depends on timing, and I think the scholarship office will try to talk you out of it lol. And agreed with tambam that it may jeopardise future opportunities given that a cadetship contract is a contract. It's a promise to do something in the future.
