I am under the impression that if I do bad in Advanced English, they can count my 3U and 4U English units instead since they count best 2 English units, is this true?

Absolutely none, but there is no other reason to dumb down the science courses. I was looking at one pre-2001 Physics paper, and if you had the right elective all soft science could be avoided. Yet now its pretty bad. Why do you think they chose to change it? Keep in mind that this new change...

    General Studies 1U pre1995

Anyone know where I can find the pre-1995 papers for the course General Studies 1U? The 1995-2000 papers are here http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/hsc_exams/hsc2000exams/index3.html#g But I can't find the other ones online.

Relativity was ok, and that is the only thing I like in HSC Physics. Probably because I don't know much about Relativity in proper Physics, but I know enough of Classical Mechanics to hate on the dumbed down Space/Motors modules. In regards to why Physics needs to be more Mathsy, Maths is the...

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive Not embarrassing at all tbh. I don't expect many people to get that question anyway.

People don't know HOW to learn.

Not really, most of the learning should come from the student. A teacher will give you the information properly and explain it. Its up to the student to devise his/her own study methods and ways of practising. There is no responsibility whatsoever on a teacher or anyone to tell the student how...

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive Yes it is known as co-ordinate covalent bonding (dative), I didn't know it was in module 3 though. But I wasn't looking for the name of the bond, I was looking for this specific sentence specifically: Now when we add another H+ to H2O, H+ is simply a...

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive Yes, I can tell you that 1 pair of non-bonding electrons go somewhere, they do not split up but they go somewhere. Think about the bonding from the 'perspective' of the H+ ions now.

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive Where did the other electron come from though? And remember if electrons are non-bonding they cannot themselves split up to bond with other stuff.

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive Hmmm I would like a second opinion on this, its similar to what I had in mind. Oxygen by itself originally has two pairs of non-bonding electrons, but in H3O+ we can observe as you pointed out that it only has 1 pair of bonding electrons. What happened to...

People don't know HOW to learn.

I understand the argument here, and I do accept that some people do have bad teachers but there is still a remedy to it. And I am sure in general most students have adequate enough teachers (especially selective schools, yet its the people in selective schools who in general study the most)...

    Re: 2013 HSC physics marathon Just a note, am I allowed to ask questions which need students to solve simultaneous equations? Surely general maths students can do that. ======================= $It is given that$ \ \ \ 2 \times \sin \theta \times \cos \theta = \sin(2\theta) $Prove that if a...

The way my teacher teaches maths is that he gives the basic theory, proves what he needs to and straight away moves onto questions, yet while we do questions with him he teaches some theory while explaining what the question is asking etc etc. In my opinion it really works because its engaging...

People don't know HOW to learn.

Definitely, those 15-20 minutes extra for each subject (after an initial 15-20 min) would be beneficial in some cases and it still falls under the 1 hour maximum that I proposed. But the thing is, some people study way more for each subject, and after lets say 40 minutes it becomes a bit too...

People don't know HOW to learn.

Definitely, in general however I still think that even under adequate teaching which indeed a lot of selective schools do have, the students still study way too much. Learning is nothing philosophical or anything - it has a pretty clear definition and I hoped no-one would ask this for the sake...
