Tips to study for Kingsley Fong Exams

our WM midsem this semester (s1, 09) was really really easy... but the marks weren't so great. he said he aims for average mark of <70% even if it seems easy. hopefully the final won't be too bad.

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

Whilst some firms are very open to negotiating, you need to keep in mind the risks you run if you try for something like that. A lot of jobs, particularly in Big 4 cadetships, depend on you being there as a full timer to get the benefits. When you have 2 weeks of training, or a client whereby...

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

Some firms require or ask that you work during your summer holidays but they will usually be very flexible regarding exactly when this period is. Typically it is during the same time as when the interns/vaccies come on. The hours you work during this period are also usually paid at the...

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

LOL thanks for the quote. What you guys all raise are very valid points- some people thrive under the pressure and challenge of the balancing act and end up becoming much better people as a result, whilst others find it incredibly difficult and burn out. I told a few people on the night it's...

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

LOL I thought it was pretty useful having a nice baggage tag you can put a business card in without it being obvious who's bag it was.. it's also pretty effective IMO since you can put it on your bag, forget about it because it's so subtle, and then one day in the future you notice it and...

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

At the end of the day it all comes down to whether or not you fit in. It's not always the smartest, brightest or most extra-curricular-filled-resume who gets the cadetship. After all, it is a job, and like most jobs out there, there are certain skills and attributes which you need to do the job...

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

Correct but keep in mind nowadays some schools are reluctant to give these out due to the inaccuracies which are present in an estimate and the wrath of parents calling up to ask about it! For my school, we were just all told to write 95+ as the estimate, but if you pushed the Principal, he...

    Cadetship VS Co-op

Just wanted to add that both before GFC and even moreso now, finance still is by far, the most competitive of all the (business) coops in UNSW to get into. Congrats to those who get offered.

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

At the end of the day, the cadetship offer is on condition that you make it into an eligible degree so there is minimal risk to the firm. Having an estimate upfront just helps make it clearer/easier to figure out who is likely to meet this requirement.

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

It never hurts to leave a lasting and positive impression especially with the people who will be reviewing your applications and possibly interviewing you. That being said, if everyone is wearing a name tag and you introduce yourself properly, maybe you will be remembered? :) Competitive...

    Cadetship VS Co-op

As stressful as you choose to make it. Some people prefer to take it upon themselves but at the end of the day, your work colleagues know you are fresh out of high school and have university commitments- but it just gives you more opportunities to exceed the expectation IMO. The real challenge...

    Cadetship VS Co-op

Because you haven't actually worked it is a bit harder to explain but basically one is a full time employee and all that entails, whilst the other is 3 internships. Funnily enough in the current GFC, job security (or even the prospects of job offers) have become an issue in the cadet vs. coop...

    Accounting Cadetships 2009

Based on past experience (which may not apply this year), registration beforehand was only so you would get a personalised nametag and help give the ICAA a better idea of numbers/turnout. Everyone still gets a showbag and enters the big room where all the firms are and can get more and more...

Accounting Cadetship Night - 21st of May, THIS THURSDAY!

LOL i wonder how many good freebies there will be considering GFC and all... but it is always an interesting evening and at least you get to meet both the firms to ask questions ...AND your competition :)

    Accounting Cadetships 2009

Agreed, but I have to admit over the past few years, the remuneration/conditions/benefits AND flexibility have improved considerably. When you consider a cadet is an HSC-graduate, they are getting a pretty good deal with very flexible and lenient work conditions for a FTE (full time employee)...

    Accounting Cadetships 2009

Sorry I'm a bit annoyed now because I spent quite a bit of time replying and my internet explorer lost my post! Grr! An example would be if you worked in Audit: Financial Services, you could choose to specialise in Insurance companies/funds which are heavily reliant on actuarial models for...

    Which car should i get?

Agreed re: e46 auto. We have a 328i and 330Ci, and in both cases, the Auto was really having trouble later on in the car's life. For the 330, we ended up swapping it out and installing a normal 5 spd manual (whilst our mate did a conversion to the SMG). The manual worked alot better with the...

    Cadetship vs BCom/BEng

Agreed. If you aren't interested in accounting/business in general, chances are you won't enjoy an accounting cadetship. After all, a cadetship is a fancy word for a full time job in an accounting firm which gives you extra benefits/leave in recognition and understanding you have university...
