    GPS recommendations

Can't believe GPS are so cheap now. A TomTom One v3 ranges between $249 and $299 depending on shops. Check out JB Hifi, Dick Smith, etc... they always advertise this model in catalogues. Spend a bit more to get same model but with hugeass widescreen called TomTom One XL for aroudn $380-$400ish...

    Professional Business Cadetships

lol I have to wear my suit everyday to work- that's why I paid that much for a suit. Back when I was in ur position I was happy with my $99 (tailored) suit :)

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

As long as ur willing to link ur IT work with some accounting, then yeh. If u wanna focus purely on IT, i'm not sure if IT audit or "controls assurance" or "business assurance" or "systems and process assurance" (multiple names for same thing) is really that suitable. But I mean u might as well...

    CPA or Big 4

Companies, corporations, private sector, commercial, etc... in this context refer to normal businesses which have a Finance and/or Accounting department which is not their core business (i.e. it's a cost centre). E.g. Telstra, Commonwealth Bank, Fairfax, etc... Big 4, and other accounting or...

    Professional Business Cadetships

Don't get cocky. I got my job at OUR firm with a $99 Man2Man suit. Sure I'd rather not wear a suit at all than be caught wearing it now... but back then it was more than sufficient for both interviews AND school formal. However, providing some constructive feedback to the guys here...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

Considering you're a high school student, also bear in mind that your interviewer won't expect you to be the guru of understanding what the different divisions (and roles) of each position in a professional services firm entails. I've heard of people who've said in their interview that they...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

Furthering from what Vagabond said, IT roles in accounting cadetships is more understanding the reliance that companies place on their IT systems in delivering financial data to the finance/accounting teams. This can be as basic as making sure there is physical security around the computer...

    Need Help with Accounting

I thought they only teach FOB for the purposes of revenue recognition... didn't realise they actually used it in first year accounting questions for inventory/COGS!

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

Uh if you're really stuck and don't know how to do this or have access to the software/tools required to do this, why don't you offer to fax your report to them? Call the HR person and explain your reasons- who knows, maybe they'll just ask you to bring it in when you come for the interview.

    CPA or Big 4

As Vagabond said, many jobs are happy with either CA or CPA, but there are a few slightly more elite jobs which specify CA only- typically either professional services or large SEC listed companies. I'm yet to see a CPA-only job.

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

I attend UNSW and still think it's considerably harder to get to than UTS. TO compensate though, it's only $35 a semester to get a parking permit for night-students. Although if you're a cadet and you've got a (near) guaranteed job upon graduation, you might as well take the easy route and...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

In short, coop programs are managed/run by universities but sponsored by firms and are basically a scholarship whereby you get to study as normal (sometimes the degree is stretched) but you also get several work placements with the sponsors. The focus here is on your degree and whilst you have...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

Thought I'd add some input to this person's questions; For most people, offers will be received shortly after the recruitment process is finished (expect July-ish for this year I believe) and considerably before the UAI comes out. Per the ICAA rules, you have a set period of time (I think...

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

Don't let that get you down. Some of the best cadets I know weren't exactly the epitome of professionalism back then (or now to be honest! jkjk...)

    Accounting Cadetship 2008

Just for those who are interested, if you are working in city and study at UNSW, you'll need to walk to Elizabeth St to catch a bus. If you happen to be on Sussex St or thereabouts (e.g. PwC, KPMG, BDO, etc..), it's quite a hike to get up to Elizabeth St (when I say up, I mean uphill) especially...

    Business Studies Competition :)

lol i remember doing it back in the day... they ask you alot of general knowledge questions as well as some related to the news. obviously you won't know everything in the competition since they could potentially be definitions-based but it's multiple choice so good luck :) ps. cash prizes...

    Intangibles on balance sheet

My friend has a question re: Intangibles. The question from her workbook is as follows; The question is: "Explain why intangibles are a $300,000 asset for Louge Lizards" I know how to answer this from a 3rd year accounting perspective but considering it's a 4-line question with 1 mark...

Subprime crisis and the Australian Bond Market

I'm not sure on your knowledge so I'll give a very very basic overview; 1. People borrowed more money than they could afford to repay- hence the dodgy mortgages. Compounded by the fact that housing prices went down, this also presents a collectibility problem whereby even if they sell the...
