Most firms have that I believe- PwC, Moore Stephens, KPMG, EY, etc... it's pretty much a safety net to get rid of people who don't really live up to expectations I think. I've never heard of anyone actually getting terminated- usually the employee themselves can figure out that they aren't...

Non-math orientated Com, hopefully not an oxymoron

At unsw you have to do QMA... it's 2u maths all over again.

    Accountancy Firms

I thought HSBC was meant to be a somewhat more prominent player than their ranking would suggest.

    Accessing networked folders

That's happened to me before... too many possibilities for what's causing it (firewall, new IP?, my router, etc...) but I haven't had any problems in a while now. Can't really offer any advice but when it used to happen I'd just restart all my PC's. And LOL @ cable not connected properly...

Chippin' in for Petrol and other Matters

Hmm.... if it was "my girl" (hypothetical) then of course not- even if she offered. But anybody else who makes me drive considerably out of my way (and take up alot of my limited free time) I'm more than willing to *nudge* that petrol ain't free.

    Accountancy Firms

BRW does their annual Top100 Accounting firms listing around end of July don't they? ... as for IB, wouldn't have a clue. Btw don't forget that those surveys/listings are based on projected/budgeted revenue- and not actual revenue.

Do people start cadetship in 2nd year uni?

I think out of the Big4, only EY offers cadetships to first year uni students to commence in 2nd year. That being said, I also know some cadets from various firms who have deferred the commencement of either their cadetship/fulltime- or uni+work altogether (eg. to go on a 1 year vacation) for...

Advice needed: Double degree vs. Finance vs. Accounting vs. Acturial

"prudent"... you sound like an accounting student already! I heard double degree tends to get better jobs in IB (finance) but not really sure about that. If you want a job in Accounting, then Commerce alone is sufficient- you can then go on to do CA. As I said in the other thread, your uni...

    Fluffy dice

In the past week I keep randomly seeing them... I think i saw them in Big W (Auburn) for like $7?, saw them for $10 at either Autojoy or Supercheap or Repco... (Parramatta). The reason I say "or" is because I can't remember where I was!

Yes you can do double majors... I think pretty much every cadet does? I'm doing Acct/Fin, my friend in EY is doing Acct/HR, and there are some who do Acct/Biz Law.

    PriceWaterhouseCoopers

I go to UNSW along with 13 other cadets (from my year). Does that answer your question? EDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm doing Acct/Fin. Some people are doing Acct/Biz Law, and some doing Acct/HR. Problem with UNSW is it requires quite a bit of effort to organise your degree to fit in your...

Haha I stopped caring- must like how I got used to people saying "Earnest and Young". Eh...? I don't know what the result will be, but it might be worth your effort telling PwC that's the reason why you are declining their offer. But more importantly is that we fix this misconception about...

Congratulations! LOL shouldn't pick a firm just because it's the largest firm in the world... but my experience has been quite amazing. Started about a week ago! I'm in Financial Assurance: Resources, Services and Govt .... :)

I think the 2007 cadets are getting around $28k for tax (tax usually pays more than other divisions) at EY. punned- Some firms offer remuneration based on packages, but others just do it by grade/experience (at UG level). I don't know about EY, you'll have to ask. As for average...

I remember you. Don't you feel special? ... and I can't help but wonder if you'll become the next Jeremy Clarkson... or Richard Hammond.

    Are cover letters a necessity?

I agree. For a fast food job there's no need for a huge resume. Just something which says what you're good for to them is adequate with proof (ie. references/experience).

I've only heard of people getting into Tax divisions... I have a few friends (some in EY Tax- both uni/HSC applicants; and one PwC) who have been made offers; but surprisingly- no audit. Maybe the assurance interviews haven't been done *shrugs*
