So the results have been released and we all are aware of where we may be heading. I have the option of two universities and am not sure which to pick. Here are the options:

1. UNSW: B Arts/B Education (4 years) or
2. UWS: B Arts/ Masters of teaching (4 years)

I know that UNSW is prestigious and well-known as opposed to UWS which has a poor reputation, but UWS offers Masters within the four years unlike UNSW which offers just the B Education. I'd love to go UNSW but i am tempted by the course at UWS...so thoughts and opinions please?

wouldn't USYD be the most prestigious for education?
B Arts/ B Education takes 5 years though...

Masters of teaching (from any uni) is considered equivalent to the old dip ed (i.e., you will be employed as a 4 year trained teacher at the end of it.)

Any education credential is just a piece of paper to get a job - and all your potential employers know this. I would go to the uni that does whatever it is that you want to specialise in best.

If you're going to be spending atleast 4 years at university, you want to make sure that you're going to a place where you won't feel out of place and out of character.

Since both the programs that you are considering are almost identical, with the same end result( you being qualified as a teacher), you may want to begin asking yourself some other important questions...like transport, location...etc

I've never been to a UWS campus but from what my friends that do go there tell me, it isn't really that great, poor facilities, some academic staff don't like to be called outside contact hours, Arabs...etc but this is just hear say so i can't really confirm any of this.

On the other hand, I go to UNSW and it's great.

Wasn't able to get the UAI for, it missed out by 3 points! Otherwise Syd was my 1st preference

Location for either is fine. Can you tell me anything else about UNSW, like lecturers, environment, library (doing a B Arts in english...so the library is my new home)? Thanks

Simply put, UWS is where people direct those who receives an UAI which no other university would take. Do you want to be with those people? XD

The preconceptions people have of UWS are extremely narrow minded. When choosing your degree the employer will look for which degree is more prestigous and not what name and logo is printed on the top. In my opinion the UWS: B Arts/ Masters of teaching would be the smarter option in the long term.

i loled. UWS really isn't as bad as it's made out to be. however it does have a very bad stigma attached to its name so bear that in mind when you consider your future employment prospects.

though fields such as education, nursing and med obviously isn't affected as much compared to law and such.

When you're teaching, your students may go, "hey you went to UWS, you sure you know your stuff?"

oh true. at less academic schools they'll probably burn you for it... and at selective ones they might just ignore you altogether.. haha.
