yeah. hey do abos have to pay more for health insurance etc because they are more likely to die young?
Nah. In Australia health premiums only discriminate against people on the basis of age, to encourage young prople to take up private health insurance.

" The point of air travel is to make money for the air companies." I don't think so. I think the purpose of air travel, is that - travel. That is different to air travel companies whose purpose is probably to make a profit.

Dude do u understand what capitalism means? Airline companies provide a service to consumers in return for money. When they make more money from this service than they spent on organising it they make profit. They use this profit to purchase goods and services from other companies. This is commerce, not some fucking quixotic socialist service. If the people who want to travel by air arent happy with it then they can choose not to travel with that company, the company goes bankrupt and a new airline takes its place where obese people are given two seats. This is capitalism and its a shitload more democratic than the high court ordering people to behave a certain way.

In an ideal capitalist economy you pay for what you use and the price is determined by the price agreed apon by the consumer and the producer, not by government arbitration. the problem is that half the people in the developed world cant solve their own problems (like obesity) and go running to the government and the courts every time something happens that they dont like. (same goes for interest rates. According to the constitution the government CANNOT make the banks pass on the full interest rate cuts yet people blame them when the banks keep some.)

Fuck the nanny state, people should take some responsibility for themsleves and stop whinging.

No.

They should just not be allowed on the aeroplane.

It's only fair in the case of a valid medical condition.

Ah yes! So fuck the disabled, women etc etc with different needs to a healthy, middle class male.
Yep. I'm anti-discrimination. Which is why I probably wouldn't place women in the same category as the disabled.

Also, a disabled person doesn't really force other passengers to pay for increased fuel consumption and lower passenger capacity. They also don't generally contribute to the poverty of the world in thoughtlessly satisfying a sugarlust and are generally born with a problem that is not actually correctable. Just a thought.

Far out - did you even read what I wrote? I repeat - I think that the purpose of air travel, like the reason people thought to invent it - is for transportation. Then I said - this was different to air travel companies whose purpose is to make a profit.

Edit: Ha - it looks like I'm quoting and responding to myself.

i'm (somewhat) of a fatty, and honestly, i dont think airlines should be obligated to provide free extra seat for grossly obese people, public transport, yes, but airlines, no, they're like...an extra service, and usually not required for transport to most places

It depends if the airlines mind if they lose their reputation as people friendly companies. They will only lose money in the long run. On the other hand its not the airlines fault if people are obease so why should they pay for it.

it's only fair for these so called fatties to pay for the extra seat, therefore i cant see the airline losing money over this

fatties should pay 10 times extra for the cost of the emotional distress they cause normal passengers when they get in their line of sight. They should have to travel by boat with no seatbelts.

If fatties get it for free then the airline will lose money and will make it up by charging normal people more money. I hate fat people trying to sue companies because they're fat. Seriously, if you want to be thin stop eating and go to the gym and stop trying to blame your fatness on food chains and advertising.
