1997 Suzuki Baleno Sedan

98 Oct: I fill up at 780kms and it takes about 45L (51L tank)
So 45L/780kms = 5.77L/100kms

91 Oct: I fill up at 630kms and it takes about 40L (51L tank)
So 40L/630kms = 6.35l/100kms

Won't touch ethanol blend, ruins motor and uses heaps more

You use 98 Octane in a Baleno? Does it improve performance much apart from the fuel economy?

performance and fuel economy is almost negligible on cars with low compression ratios (nfi what the baleno has)
I think the only advantage it has in those applications is the additives that don't wear down rubber seals and shit?

using 98 octane on anything but high-compression or high-boost engines is an utter waste of money. There will be no appreciable difference in fuel economy or performance. Using 95 has benefits is because the fuel is usually better quality compared to regular unleaded.

Also I call BS on a baleno doing 5.7L/100 km.

I used 98 about 50% of the time in my Civic FD 1.8L (current model Civic) and found that it had slightly better acceleration and fuel economy, but even then, it had a very small difference because I found that you tend to make more use of the slightly better acceleration when you have 98 which offsets the petrol saving.

the na s15s (sr20de?) have a compression ratio of 9:1
the vw 1.6/8 engines in golfs/a3s/a4s have like 8.5:1

and b16a civics have >10:1
which explains what you find
but yeah, you only see a marked increase in mid-high end applications

Both my cars have compression ratios of 10.5:1 so they should in theory both benefit considerably from it.

I have to admit I do feel good pumping Vpower :)

placebo i reckon, dude 95 is not gonna knock at ~10:1.

Is it just me or have all the Caltex service stations around here gotten rid of RON 91 and now only have Ethanol blend?

Also, my fuel gauge lies,

The 'trip meter' shows the distance traveled since I last filled it.

Did either of you guys consider maybe I took that photo purely for the purposes of posting it here in this thread and I wasn't at a petrol station? Sigh.

Happened to my local Caltex. But what happened to the good ol' days where premium unleaded was 4c and 8c premiums over regular unleaded. Sigh.
