You mean servicing don't you? You don't take your vehicle to a medical clinic do you? Or god forbid a dentist?

I wonder what world you're living in...:bomb:

Must be a land of magical mechanics that don't want to put food on their tables.

Depends on where you go..

Some dodgy places can do it for really cheap, but if you go back to the genuine places which are specific for your brand of car, then that'd set you back a couple of hundred.

I think my last one was $480.... maybe $460 or thereabouts....

^^ cool thanks carmen. I need to take it on a 1000km+ trip, so I really should have it serviced. I'm thinking of not servicing it, but then I also have thoughts of being stuck in the middle of nowhere compliments of a stuffed up engine and having to try very hard to dig myself out of a very awkward situation.

My friend made up a little motto for me a few yrs back

It goes something along the lines of, my name is carmen... and I like cars, and men

Epic fail unless it has the revised tail lights then it's an epic win.

Paying someone to do a basic service on your car is for suckers (And come on guys at the very least should do oil changes, takes 10mins)!

Typical Service before Long Trip
Haynes Manual : $30 (Which you have forever!)
Oil : $40
Oil Filter : $10
Tranny Fluid : $30
Coolant Change : $30
Air Filter : $20
DIY Cost = $160

Mechanic Cost = Approx $320+

Only time I take mine to get it serviced these days is major stuff like timing belt change (FWD V6 is a biatch to work on) and if Im lazy things like brake pads although they aint hard to do yourself... the benefit also of doing it yourself is you get an idea about cars so mechanics dont screw you over (which they like to do). One time a mechanic changed my coolant without telling me and tried to charge me $40.... unfortunately for him I had only done it weeks earlier with long life coolant

EDIT: Youd also need car ramps which are $80 or so.... but like the Haynes manual u have these things for life. Once you have it all, it will save you heaps, for eg mechanics charge like $120 for oil change and general check, costs you $50 in oil and oil fitler... something that takes 10mins to do (Although I will say the Camry V6 is a slut to change the oil filter on!)

When my b/f bought his new car, the salesman said a standard check is $220, as long as he takes it back to the holden dealership

Oh, yeah i think its because its a new car - to keep the warranty on it or something though. Otherwise, its cheaper at places like Ultratune etc.

I have some spare coolant which I can change. The last time it has been serviced is feburary. Do you think I can just do without? I keep reminding myself that on the offchance if something goes wrong, I'll regret it if I don't get it serviced.
