well, as far as i'm concerned that's a sign that it was a pretty hard test... but i dunno, maybe review the concepts and stuff. practice under exam conditions, so you get used to it, there's plenty of time to improve

if everyone does really poorly, it generally means 1 or 2 things

bad "hard" paper
or
low level cohort

the former is generally the case

well considering the band a mark of 50% falls into
*shrug*
i see results in terms of bands first, % last
ohhh my school gives us the mark
and maybe if they are nice a percentage
no bands unless you figure it out yourself
but who really knows the cut off marks for certain bands.

yeah, they explained that to us in this big 'scaling' talk last year. lol, with my year in business studies i'm pretty sure it was the latter. everyone was like 'it was so hard', but i didn't think it was difficult. i just don't pay attention in class or study, so i'll only be in the top 5 or so..

if that's the case, as long as your ranks are decent and you do well in the HSC it'll scale up. it's better to get hard tests than get easy tests and think the HSC will be easy, and go in unprepared, in my opinion.

err, you can work out the percentage, and surely you know the bands structure.
and with raw marks like you assessment marks, cut offs shouldnt be a worry.

So far I've gotten back:

Biology - 93% - Rank 1st
Economics - 92% - Rank 1st
Chemistry - 90% - Rank 1st (but I might get an extra mark or two, teacher is remarking a particular question on my paper).
Maths 2u - 85% - Rank equal 1st (was a pretty hard exam)

are all the bands are equal in length?
like if the test was out of 60
a band 1 is 1-10
band 2 10-20
....
band 6 50-60.
or kind of in a similar structure i guess

i guess.

easier is, say if you got 60/65. thats about 92%.
that 92% equates to to a band 6.

of course when you get to the hsc and you paper is marked and you results aligned and whatever it changes, but in terms of assessments to see how youre going, thats the quickest way to get an idea.

hmm, while we're settling questions of this type...

i heard people talking about something really weird the other day... they said that if your rank in the internals is first and you do badly in the externals, your mark will be that of the person who came first in the external exam.

so for example, i come first in italian in class. in the HSC i end up doing badly, and the highest in my class is 92%. my mark is that of the person that got 92%.

does anyone know if that's true, or will i need to make a new thread about it?

the idea is, if you kick ass in internals, but, say, have you dog gets hit by a car, get a cold, have really bad period pains, something that disadvantages you, for whatever reason, the day of your exam, you will still be aligned up via your internals.

similarly if you slack off on your internals, itll drag your marks down.

thats why your ranks matter

the school sends in your assessment marks, and thats 50% of your hsc mark, or something.

its been explained to be a million times but i cant never restate it properly, or forget something improtant, but thats the gist i think.
