the idea is, if you kick ass in internals, but, say, have you dog gets hit by a car, get a cold, have really bad period pains, something that disadvantages you, for whatever reason, the day of your exam, you will still be aligned up via your internals.

similarly if you slack off on your internals, itll drag your marks down.

the school sends in your assessment marks, and thats 50% of your hsc mark, or something.

its been explained to be a million times but i cant never restate it properly, or forget something improtant, but thats the gist i think.
what both people said to me was that you get the same mark as the person who came top of the class, regardless of the circumstances... i thought it sounded a bit weird... gah, confused.

hmm, while we're settling questions of this type...

i heard people talking about something really weird the other day... they said that if your rank in the internals is first and you do badly in the externals, your mark will be that of the person who came first in the external exam.

so for example, i come first in italian in class. in the HSC i end up doing badly, and the highest in my class is 92%. my mark is that of the person that got 92%.

does anyone know if that's true, or will i need to make a new thread about it?
That's exactly what I've been told. Your internal assessment rank determines your HSC mark. I was confused about this the other day and someone posted me a website. I'll find it and copy paste it.

Yeah the rank is the most important.

From the HSC results, your school gets a set number of score (larger if your school does well). Those scores are distributed according to the difference between each rank.

If are ranked first and do badly in the HSC, you'll still get the top mark (but not as a higher mark if you did well).

As the BOS explained, the internal ranks determine what proportion of the school's total mark are given to you.

Physics: 90% 4th out of 12
2U maths: 98% 2nd out of 48 i think?
Ext 1 maths: 73% 3rd out of 11
Economics: 96% 2nd out of 20 something people
Added some rough ranks off the top of my head.

Plus i got Chemistry back today, 88% - equal 2nd out of 20 something people.

Still waiting on english, tommorow apparently. Fingers crossed as my English marks have been pretty average.

my year overall is pretty dumb but competition at the top is pretty fierce, so i'm really happy with my ranks so far:

Italian Continuers - 86% - 1st overall
Biology - 87% - 3rd (3.5 marks off first!) overall
English - 77% - 4th (7% off first) overall
Ancient History - 81% - 4th (3 marks off first!) overall

still waiting on business. i think my rank will be around 5th/6th, but we'll see.

English - 60% ranked 70th/160
Extension 1 - 74% ranked 35th/88
Extension 2 - 74% ranked 8th/45
Chemistry - 80% ranked 23rd/66
Physics - 75% ranked 26th/60

Top half for every subject, but marks are pretty shit to me.

Damn it I hate selective schools, makes you so insecure with your marks+ranks.

Yeah it really does. I didn't know Caringbah is seletive...
Haha, it was my 3rd preference.

Got reserve c) for James Ruse b) for Sydney Boys, didn't choose them for some reason.

We were 8th when I got into Caringbah, not we're 26th =\ hopefully our grade will bring us back to top 20 :D
