She has just finished stocktake where her friend Flora found a dead rat in the pasta aisle and a live rat running about under the shelves. Marcus is not self-flaggelistic, if that is what Evan thinks . Marcus does, however, like to consider his own choices, so that he can, in the present, make choices which are most true to him. Marcus is not a gloomy or self-punishing person - he tries to use his understanding of himself to make positive choices.
