I bought one of these last week, and they are fucking brilliant!

Particularly recommend one for anyone who loves their arts and creative applications. I edit alot of video and photos, and this thing doesn't break a sweat! (Compared to my 4yr old laptop!).

Back to topic, I went to UTS for two years doing an IT Degree, and noticed EVERYONE would bring their laptop. Must be an IT thing, as it seems every morning before a lecture, some of the nutters of the course would have battles on who's laptop is better, and the fact I was ridiculed alot for having a 'thick brick' of a laptop (IBM G41).

I mean for fuck sake, it's just a laptop. I don't give a shit, yet clearly they did!

Now I go to CSU out in the country, I have not seen one single student anywhere on campus carry a laptop with them or have one in a class. Not even for my friends who do the IT course there carry them around, and find anyone that does to be an A-Grade wanker.

That, and back at UTS, I had two of my friends have their laptops stolen. All it took was to turn away for less than 30seconds. Simply you don't want to risk anything like this.

Laptops are VERY helpful when there aren't any free computers in the library or
when you finally get to one and the guy you end up next to is watching people makeout on youtube with the sound all the way up!!!!!!! :argue:

Re: How helpful is a laptop at university?

My laptop is hugely useful for law. The seminars go so quickly - particularly legal theory - and 99.99% of it is text based, and you can do word searches for notes on particular cases buried somwhere in the mountains of pages. It also lets me copy and paste the questions I answered or notes I wrote on the cases into my seminar notes, so I can add extra bits to them or correct them if I need to.
Another plus - every seat in our building has a power point for it right next to it/under the table, so there's no fighting.

I handwrite notes for my creative arts subjects, since they go a lot slower and there's less to write.

Yeah, laptops are really, really useful for law in that I can type up my lecture stuff, then add in the tute work and my own research. Saves writing like three sets of notes.

It doesn't work for accounting though, since it has a lot of working out.

Re: Laptops?

Is there an internet connection in the lecture room?

If so, I blame the University for students going on msn/porn/etc.
