Where are all the unis that offer this? I know the major ones, USyd, UNSW, UNCLE, any others? and which is the best? and is USyd med significantly easier to get into since its grad entry only? thx
all the courses are equivalent cos they are sanctioned by a federal body.. only diff is the quality of teaching, course type (most are pbl -problem based learning)Originally posted by Giant Lobster

You can't "expect" to get a job just by going to any of these. What the courses do is offer you the chance to gain the skills and knowledge required to be a good Doctor. It's up to you to decide whether you suck or not. Hospitals don't look at where you come from when they hire you, they look at how well you do in uni. If you did shit all in med and somehow didn't get kicked out, they still won't hire you.Originally posted by Giant Lobster

Doctors' starting salary is generally agreed to be around $50,000 per annum. However, interns have an insanely heavy weekly load, with up to five twelve hour shifts a week. The two years of internship are considered to be even more testing that the six years of MBBS study, and competition to enter Postgraduate (specialisation) study is definitely more competitive than entry into intitial medical training. Many MBBS holders never become Residents (students of a specialisation) because there simply are not enough specialist study places available to them.Originally posted by inasero
i disagree, physicians get a motza even for their stressful workign conditions.....now a really bad job is being a nurse or teacher i reckon, cos they have to work equally as hard and get shit all.
lol how do u know so much about the lives of med grads when ur not even doing it urself (i take that from ur sig)Originally posted by Lexicographer

If you think you've hit the high life once you graduate you're in for a nasty surprise. Medicine is a lifetime of uphill battles, and they only stop short of asking you to commit autosurgery before easing up on the pressure. Most professionals are in a comfortable lifestyle by age 30 - this refers to Lawyers, Accountants etc. Doctors can't rest until about 40 at the earliest, as this is when (if they were lucky and worked hard) they will have earned their place in the College of their specialisation and joined or secured a Practice. That doesn't leave much time in life to enjoy prosperity!

how do docs work? i mean, is a 20 hr shift a 20 hr shift?
like, they walk around the big big hospital, then after 3 hrs of chatting up some nurses (nice ones ) they r called up to poke that thing around their neck on someone's chest, or stab some guy with a needle or what not... then another 4 and so hours of the void.
or have i got the idea all full wrong?
