yes and bored/falling asleep is driver fatigue??????

Newell Highway reduced speed limit

"Do reduced speed limits increase fatigue related crashes?
There is no evidence that reducing the speed limit increases fatigue related crashes. In fact travelling at higher speeds requires more concentration which induces fatigue. It can be shown that the chance of a fatigue related crash is greater in 110 km/h speed limited roads than 100 km/h roads.

Regardless of the behavioural factors causing the crash (speed, fatigue, alcohol) speed adds to the severity of the crash."

"How do we know reducing the speed limit will improve safety?
Australian and international research conclusively shows that reducing speed limits has been effective in reducing the number and severity of crashes. Based on previous results we can expect 10 to 20 lives to be saved within the next five years, as well as a significant reduction in injuries.

There has been a 26 per cent reduction in casualty crashes on Great Western Highway after the speed limits were reduced from 110 km/h to 100 km/h."

"But not all the crashes are speed related?
True. Many of the crashes are related to other factors including fatigue and driver distraction. While speeding may not necessarily be the primary cause of all crashes, higher speeds increase the likelihood of a crash occurring and make the outcome of any crash more severe.

Speed is the major cause of many crashes. We are not expecting that the reduced speed limit will remove all crashes, but it will reduce both the risk and severity of crashes."

Etc,

I respond with insults to you because your entire argument is based upon your misguided belief that i care that you are doing medical radiation physics at uni and how that is somehow relevant, whilst not providing any credible evidence to back up your ~childish~ argument.

No, my course was simply in response to your attack upon me claiming that I am an idiot!

and sorry, but I can drive longer distances at 90kph than i can at 80kph because i get bored and have to stop but then again, actually doing some enjoyable but mentally demanding for V. long periods of time doesn't worry me, I'm used to that and maybe I'm just weird. I'm only talking about doing higher speeds on freeways etc anyway where it really isn't going to make much difference, have a look at Autobahns, the majority of their extra crashes are caused by speed difference! perhaps a better way of reducing accident rate would be to fine people for being to far below the speed limit!

your point was covered by the link i posted from the RTA which explained that driving faster requires more concentration therefore causes fatigue more than driving slower

and that the increase in travel time is neglible

exactly what is your point with autobahns? afaik most of them are limited to 130 now, and the few that remain unlimited in some areas are limited to 130 within x km of an on/offramp
not to mention the whole keep right (left) unless overtaking thing over in europe is enforced to a much greater extent than it is over here

my point was that 130kph is perfectly reasonable if the cops actually enforce road rules other than speeding!

average speed is 134 km/h, 25% is unrestricted. They have a accident rate of only 3 fatalities per billion kilometers, significantly lower than regular roads.

Though lots of places in germany have variable limits when traffic is high. Thats what I think we should do. (but with 120 or 130 max, not unlimited).

Speaking to a dude on another forum, he got booked going 90 mph in a 70, and got a ~$200 fine (US), here that would be $647 and 3 months. Our governments rely too much on the revenue.

In season 13 top gear had a speeding ticket issued in california which showed a bugatti 2 door caught at like 200mph in a 60 zone and all he got was $500

which is nothing if he can afford a 2m supercar

Should fines really be relative to the individual's wealth, income or value of the car?

no, but he more than tripled the limit and all he got was a fine
in nsw/vic you're looking at 3-4k easy plus some proper jail time
and while i don't necessarily disagree with the jail time (obviously time and place taken into consideration), that fine is just unnecessary.

In regards to L/P1/P2 drivers and their speed regulation-

I think L/P1/P2 platers should be able to do 110km/h on the highway. Trying to merge into 110KM/H traffic doing 80KM/H on a bike is fucking disturbing.

Some test or something could be done, like if your on your L's, you go a driving test at the RTA to say you are allowed to do the speed limit on highways.

To many times i've had a truck on my right doing 80 and a stupid fuck nearly taking me out driving up the service lane.
