Same here :( Stupid compulsory subject, why couldn't maths be compulsory :D

Because it is a basic human need to learn how to read and write and basically be able to communicate and interact with other human beings, whereas it is not a necessity to know how to find the directrix of a parabolic function or the derivative of a quadratic.

Taking things back a step, it is generally accepted as a human need that people should have decent maths skills, a la money, budgeting, taxes, etc. You're right though, it's not a necessity to know calculus or parametrics, but I think at the very least some form of maths should be compulsory, if only to ensure that people do have those basic skills.

don't hate any. i choose them for a reason
very wise reasoning there. how can you hate a subject if you were the one who chose it in the first place? you do have free will :)

eng is really shitty. but you can bullshit your way through it.. eng is about playing the game BOS want you to play..

on the other hand.. maths is shithouse, its either right or wrong.. and for me it was always wrong.

yeah, maths like adding and even algebra to some extent should be compulsery, but it already is. i think we learned as much as we had to until yr 10, and then the choice was good, depending on what we plan on doing later. esp since ppl would lose interest and motivation trying to learn calculus if they know they'd never use it. by the same token, why is the analysis of different readings of king lear compulsery?

whoa! sorry that was a lil convoluted!

Have you ever heard of an accountant? You can hire them to do taxes and budgeting etc etc. But i have never heard of being able to hire someone to speak proper english for you.
