hey,
i was wondering if anyone could tell me about this. just a back up plan based on uai, what is involved in this process and is it achievable? i was thinking of doing 1st yr law at UNE and transfering,,, any chance? thanks in advance!

What u want to do with law?

i dont think law can be done on its on, u have to combine it

if u really want to do law:

Get UAI 90+
Get a credit average+ GPA

apply for Macquarie prevlidge law transfer

they halve UAI and GPA and then add them both together

they rank every applicant

top 20 makes it in

it has never fallen below 95 in past few years, around 95-97 or more popular ones 98-99

can't a person just do FNCL01 - Finance + Law (Undergraduate Study Pattern) as opposed to FNCL02 - Applied Finance + Law (Undergraduate Study Pattern)?

the latter you listed is 95.9; what would the former be

actually what's the diff? its just applied makes the degree sound scary and technical

Heya, there are two ways to transfer into law at Macquarie:
1. Do another degree at Macquarie and transfer internally, or
2. do a degree degree (law or not law) at another uni and transfer externally.

If you do number 1, you should be looking at, the very least, a UAI of high 80s and uni results of Distinctions in the higher range to High Distinctions, or a UAI of the 90s and results of Distinctions. You write an application as to why you want to do law. A good idea is to do LEGL100 or a similar introductory subject.

If you do number 2, you apply through UAC and need slightly better marks than if you went through number 1 - simply because you being at Macquarie gives you some sort of priority. If you did law at UNE, I think you'd have a better chance of a transfer than if you didn't do law - because you can show that you've done law.

All this being said, you need to work your butt off to get some higher marks.

I believe that list is exhaustive, and as far as I'm aware, the highest UAI-entry course at Macquarie is the B Com (Actuarial Studies) / B Laws at 98.50. I could be wrong, though.

Even USyd law isn't 99.95.

From memory, you would have either read 99.95 in relation to a scholarship or in relation to a PhB (Bachelor of Philosophy) at ANU.

Yeah, but this is different. This isn't a degree into philosophy - metaphysics, ethics, etc, it's a research degree.

A degree in Philosophy (ie a PhD, DPhil, a MPhil, etc) usually involves research into an area, which is what the ANU PhB is. That's why Masters/Doctorate degrees that have no research are usually not an XPhil, but an MA, MLitt, LLM, DA, DLitt, LLD etc.

Frankly, I think it's stupid encouraging recent year-12 leavers to do immediately go into research. I have no idea how you could expect an 18 year-old to do independant research and come up with something unique and insightful.

But remember that EE2 and History Extension have non-research requirements (EE2 requires 2U + 3U English, History Extension has historiography and your 2U component).

It's not, really. It seems that they should build another block or two of car parks, but it's not bad enough that people get really shitty about it. When it gets to the stage where people complain, they'll build more.

They have lots of room to build more, they just have to be careful not to make them as ugly as the current ones.
