Both universities have excellent overall commerce faculties which are on-par with one-another, so for the most part, getting into either of them doesn't put you at a disadvantage as opposed to getting into the other. (Disregarding factors like travel, friends/connections, et cetera.)
They are both the same. Although, usyd has more placement opportunities for non-coop people (where as unsw its just for coop students - which I'm assuming you're not). Usyd comm also doesn't have bonus points.
What does that mean? What are these placement opportunities?
I think he was referring to the Industry Placement Program.
From my point of view, choosing between the two universities on B. Commerce should not be based on academic or reputative reasons (since they're similar in those regards)... except economics and econometrics. The B. Commerce at UNSW allows you to major in business economics and/or financial economics, whereas at USYD you're allowed to major in economics and/or econometrics.I share this dilemma too
UNSW and USYD are fine.
Those reasons don't support USYD Commerce though. They support USYD, but not the degree itself. IPP is down to the individual, exchanges are based on the School or University, rankings are based on the School and University, travel time is based on the University. The only thing that might support degree is if you want to do Econometrics (that specific name of the major), which is equivalent to UNSW's Finance Economics major - or if you do an Economics degree, it's one if its majors.
Co-op is basically a private sponsored degree where businesses sponsor the students while completing industry placements in that business for a time period. This offers work experience for the students. Usually, if the students are perfoming at a high standard, they are hired by the business. There are limited places for Co-op, and Honours/Co-op are in the same level and are highly sought when recruiting.
