I agreed with the article but I dont necessarily blame aussies. I've been here more than 2 years and i only made 3 aussie friends. 1 is my own friend and the other 2 became my friends because they are friends of my friend.

The reason I think is that most people have different class and time tables and apart from the difficulties in communication, there is too little time to socialise and get acquainted with new people at the university.

My biggest regret is I didnot go to America where people are far more open to multiculturalism and there are LESS clique at university based on ehtnic backgrounds because most people come to university from far flung places and they all need to make friends, but here, most students are local and they already knew people , have more than enough friends.

So, i'm wasting 3 years of my life, in australia among the people who look DOWN on me! (I ddint know that we are being looked down until someone said so in this thread and thanks for telling me that)

Again, you are making this out to be a one way thing: Anglos hating on Asians, and expecting them to integrate. You can't see that that international students don't always want to befriend "locals" but rather hangout with other international students, for perceived safety (just look at society, and how there are areas with a high-non-Australian population: Lakemba, Hurstville...humans gravitate towards things they know, and feel safe with). So why is it, that it's constantly coming back to whiteys hating the Gradient Police?

myself have experienced this personally. as a asian student, my parent pay money for me study in other country to get better life then they have, but sometimes i think if just better t o go uni in china sometime hard t omake friends when you dont know anyone in other country

i have one fob friend at uni. he's from india or some other country like that and he's a pretty top bloke. he has an accent but understands perfectly including slang.
but the reason why me and him are still friends after a couple of years of uni is because he's not arrogant or refuses to participate. he acts normal.
hence i dont think its the language barrier, its THEM

i'm confident in saying that i would have gotten a whole lot more out of my degree (primarily tutes) had it been only local students in my classes.
i feel like the unis are sacrificing the teaching quality to make some extra money.
