Hmm, I don't get this obsession that everyone has with Vimes. I find the Vimes books to be the most boring of those i've read so far. Death is better, though personally I find the stand-alone books/characters to be the best, like The Truth and Going Postal. Lipwig Von Moist ftw!

Actually, Moist is coming back in Making Money, where he gets bored with the post office and so takes over the mint. I found The Truth to start quite strongly but it actually got pretty weak at the end (rather like Sam Vimes; books like Jingo left a lot to be desired, but Night Watch was great). Going Postal was infinitely better and hopefully Making Money will be more of the same.

Reading "White Oleanders" by Janet Fitch mainly cos I was drawn to the cover.

The writer has some obsession with similes...

Lipwig Von Moist is in "Going Postal". I lent my copy to a friend like a year ago and she never returned it lol :( i must chase it up.

and yeah, vimes is cool. but he pales in comparison to some of the other characters imo.

"Layla's Story"

Its the memoirs of an Australian woman (Vanessa Gorman) who works/ed for Australian Story and lost her baby daughter (Layla) 8 hours after she was born.

I'm about halfway through now..it started off essentially as a porn, my God, it was so graphic I don't know how they got away without putting a warning on the cover, but now, it is lovely.
