You guys are fucking nuts, I have a hard enough time justifying doing an extra 2 units which won't be counted.
Yep, seeing as many people do "2 backup units" only to have less time overall and get 10% fewer marks for everything and be actually WORSE off than just doing 10 units..

The only thing is for our school, we are really strongly discouraged from doing less than 12 units.
We're only discouraged from starting with 10 if we're doing extension courses like MX2, EE2 or History Extension, since a lot of people end up wanting to drop them by the end of Term 4, but if it's their 10th unit then they can't.

Yeah that too. We discouraged from doing ten either way.

Whatever works for you. I personally wouldn't do ten, no matter how good you are. Everyone stuffs up at some stage.

I'm justifying my units by the following:

a) love maths and English.
b) no HSC exam for EE2
c) history extension and EE2 are mostly majorworks so I'll have the holidays to do them... I'm actually thinking of finishing during the long summer break so I can just refine them during the year.
d) NO. BIOLOGY. YES!

So glad I am dropping bio. <3

Here's my justification:

English Advance - strongly recommended by school (everyone had to do Advance in Yr 11),
English Extension 1 - needed for EE2, plus I like the topic,
Maths Advance - needed for engineering,
Maths Extension 1 - needed for engineering,
Physics - needed for engineering,
Economics - going quite good in it,
Business Studies - doing quite good at it and want to start a business when I'm older,
Maths Extension 2 - just trying it out because I'm alright at maths.
English Extension 2 - major project and no exams.

As I said before, I will most likely drop either EE2 or ME2.

2u Maths
Advanced English
Ext1 English (possibly ext2 if I can)
Chemistry
Physics
Economics.

I heard doing 4 units of Maths gives you cancer. :)

Justification:

Advanced English: Don't see the need for me dropping to Standard.
Biology: Acing it with flying colours :)
Chemistry: Coming second in it, and I'm starting to enjoy it now. Needed for veterinary science and pharmacy.
Maths: I like it.
Maths Extension 1: I'm enjoying it. Some of the questions are pretty challenging and require you to think outside the box. Needed to some extent for some courses.
Maths Extension 2: Teacher recommended our class to do. I might try it and see how I go next year.
Modern History: I love history and everything about it.
History Extension: Major work looks fantastic and teacher recommended me to do it.

We haven't had to decide yet but so far I'm doing 3U Maths, Adv Eng, Chem, Ancient, Italian Cont. & SOR 1 (Cause we have to). But I really want to drop chem and take up Ext. Ita but I know that if I loose all my sciences I'm really limiting my options after!!!
It's so annoying, I'm so over school at them moment!!
