    Am I pushing it?

No one can really answer this tbh, everyone responds differently to a certain amount of study. I don't have experience doing the HSC with full time work, but I have been doing 3 subjects at uni (4 is standard, but 3 counts as full time study) alongside full time work and I find it manageable...

    Commerce at UTS or UNSW?

Those prep programs are usually quite expensive, something to keep in mind.

thesis in the unsw b engineering degrees

It changed to something like this around last year at UTS too. Do you know if it was an Engineers Australia thing? I remember talk about it in 2012, but not the details.

    'small' accounting firm cadetship

You don't have to mention your current job anywhere once you have a bit more experience - a few months isn't much and is something a lot of people probably wouldn't include in their resumes a bit down the line. Nothing is guaranteed anyway, what if you have trouble getting the big 4 position...

    Teacher compromised my chances?!

If you're disappointed, at least let the school know. Provided that your internal and external HSC marks didn't differ too much, I think that gap between the estimate and actual is too much. But to be honest, I think only the higher ranked (like top 50 or so) schools can give decent estimates...

    UTS Chatter Thread

You'll get an offer, the cut offs have been pretty consistently around the high 80s for many years - I highly doubt it will jump into the 90s this year. Did you do the engineering questionnaire? If so, I reckon you would have got an early offer with decent responses. A bachelor of business at...

thesis in the unsw b engineering degrees

Engineering works differently to other courses, everyone does a thesis and you automatically get honours if your grades were good enough.

    Single degree vs double degree

Less, commerce is typically less contact hours and less stressful assessments than engineering. That depends entirely on what you want to do and if you would be interested in what you are studying. 1-2 years is really not that much to be honest and university isnt like school - all of your...

    MACQ S.Eng --> UNSW S.Eng?

I know people with ~86 that got USYD offers for one of the comp sci/IT/SEng flexible courses in previous years. If you are set on UNSW, Usyd is probably the smart choice too as transferring credit between Go8 universities is a lot simpler.

CARS & RIDES & Mighty Car Mods

Yeah, I've been saying that for ages. I think it's at a point now where if they return to their roots a lot of people will be disappointed that there aren't high HP turbo cars etc. Which was never the point of MCM.

How's free time like in uni?

This, especially the first bit imo. It varies tonnes per person, no different to the HSC.

Why do people say UTS is a bad uni???

It's actually kind of a franchise, the original one is at Usyd. (note UTS one is called Uni Brothers 2) By design I suspect. I don't think most humanities courses have a place at a Technology university (I also think there are enough positions between the other units). Stuff like an...

Talent 100 has an ATAR profiler

It's a bit difficult to do that - especially across all bands and subjects, but I guess they may have tried tuning the higher marks for really popular subjects. The UAC use raw marks for ATAR calculation but the marks you use with an ATAR calculator are aligned marks - so they'd also have to...

Would BOSTES have contacted you if there was a problem with your HSC marks/ATAR?

When I did my HSC a friend accidentally got handed back part of his exam with the question paper while the exam supervisor was bundling his papers up/ticking off everything - didn't realise until he got a call from BOS. He got the call around mid-late November iirc. It's so close to results...

Talent 100 has an ATAR profiler

I prefer the old UI even though it was similar to the Matrix one. Bit clunky to use the new one. No one can possibly know the the data until the technical reports are released AFTER 2015 atars are released. Even then, the data released only allows an approximation. My assumption is that they...

The Financial System - 94 Software Engineering Practice - 84 Advanced Digital Systems - 81 Bit disappointed with SEP, I did about a 1/3rd of the work in a group of 6 but I the guy who did about the same as I did and I got no material difference in marks from SPARK scaling (0.25 for both...

Are you studying Law/Business maybe, or business + anything other than Eng? I think it must depend on the faculties involved.

    Early Results

You know the drill. Trick started working late this afternoon, seemed to work for business students before Engineering/Business students (i.e. me) though so YMMV. Based off timings last sem, it's likely that actual results will be released Friday afternoon. Pretty happy with mine, looks like...

What language did you learn first?

Python is definitely not "just a scripting language". Look at Django for example, quite full featured and widely used web framework built in Python. There's nothing really wrong about doing it, but I wouldn't recommend it. In fairly simple C programs, there's some stuff here and there that you...

What language did you learn first?

Just learn what you have resources available for, when you learn other languages/more about programming you'll learn what the other language didn't do so well and any differences. The language with the best and most abundant beginner focused resources online would probably be Python. The...
