    English HSC Writing Booklet

If you can't find an appropriate scanned copy or one without watermarks etc., I did make one in word back when I was practising writing out my essays, with the same margins and everything :p http://www.mediafire.com/?9633u8zlv8757zt

    related text and text types

Do different text types, as it shows a wider range of knowledge/understanding/etc about a variety of text types and techniques (LITERARY techniques in particular). It's not so much that marks are being taken off, it's more like they don't give you as many marks.

    Story idea:

A boy goes on holidays to his home country, when he returns he obsessively compares everything to his country ( so all he can think about I.e: "he sky was always clear in X") ^ This is probably the best out of all. This idea could work if you think it out and manage to write it well. The rest...

    tsfx lectures

Yeah, they provide you with a massive booklet, mostly with problems, but also a summary of the concepts - they're good for general revision and as a refresher of the whole course. Lectures might be a little rushed toward the end due to the time constraints, but they provide you with answers...

    Changing essays before trials?

Trials are quite close - I wouldn't risk making any drastic changes since 18/20 and 14/15 is already quite decent. Perhaps just work on overall sophistication/expression?

    Memorising essays for English

Yeah I think you completely and entirely missed my point - did you read the first paragraph? What I'm saying is that I just agree that it's different for different people. I'm just trying to show that both methods are valid - there's no point presenting only my own biased perspective without...

    Memorising essays for English

Agreed that different methods work for different students, but I always thought it'd be harder for the average student to write concisely and/or eloquently on the spot vs. adapting a prepared. Personally I went in with a single ~1200-word memorised essay for each of the modules with no...

    Belonging Thesis

Refer to page 36 and beyond for general information: http://www.boardofstudies.nsw.edu.au/syllabus_hsc/pdf_doc/english-syllabus-from2010.pdf 46-48 gives a general outline of what to consider in the Area of Study and Modules/Electives. For specific information related to Belonging refer to the...

    english adv scaling

You might be able to pull off a low band 6, providing also that the markers mark at a similar standard as the HSC marking centre, and of course depending on the difficulty of this year's paper.

CSSA Paper 2 - English Advanced

Ah yes, I remember being scared shitless for Mod B :') Lol'd (silently) during trials though, some ridiculously generic question relevant to 'the human experience' or 'humanity'...

    structure of module A essay

    Personally our class last year structured it as: - Text 1 Idea 1 - Text 2 Idea 1 (incl. how it shapes/reshapes text 1 idea 1 - i.e. comparison/contrast) - Text 1 Idea 2 - Text 2 Idea 2 (incl. how it shapes/reshapes text 1 idea 2 - i.e. comparison/contrast) The other top class' teacher...

How to write a conflicting perspectives essay and link your materials?

That's fine :) So the first two paragraphs can be linked to one idea, and the next two linked to another - just preferable/more structured. Good luck!

    Reading time

Take a look at the essay question/creative - if expected or simple, then super, if not, think about it while you're doing S1 (and do a quick written 1-2 minute plan later), it will probably give you some ideas. - Preferable that you do this during the 'check you have page 1, page 2, page 3 etc.'...

How to answer the 5-6 mark question from AOS Paper 1?

Both quality and quantity. It really depends on how big your writing is ofc but the very bare minimum 1 page if you have slightly below average size handwriting, just because generally two paragraphs will take up a page at least. I would have at least two solid essay-style paragraphs, and you...

How to write a conflicting perspectives essay and link your materials?

You don't need to link them so explicitly. However, since you'll have a thesis with one or two main ideas, the texts should link back to that - or you could say something in the conclusion like "The combination of these texts underscore ..." etc. Or perhaps your topic sentence might say, "The...

    creative - narrative without complication?

14.5 raw mark in the actual HSC (: Which means that one marker gave it a 14 and another gave it a 15. Good luck!

Birthday Letters - 'Your Paris' poem

Any ideas are fine as long as they are backed up with evidence/reasoning. Personally our teacher said it was her father - and I interpreted it that way too, as it appears to be a direct reference to his other poem on the Minotaur, which was clearly a reference to her father.

    creative - narrative without complication?

My story was a lot like that actually. Depends on the way you write it - yes as long as you make sure you're 'showing' not 'telling', and being subtle rather than completely explicit about the paradox.

12 hours, and yes, quite easily :)

Is 1300 words too long for the belonging creative?

900-1000 should be good, to allow for extra words for adaptation on the day just in case. Personally mine was 1030, although after a lot of time reading it over and over again + writing it out, I could write it in exactly 30 minutes... yeah, best to get it out in 30-35 minutes, as an extra 200...
