"There are no certainties, only representations" .. any ideas what that could mean?

Re: "There are no certainties, only representations" .. any ideas what that could mea Very simply, it means that there are only representations of an event, person, situation etc., no 'certainties' or facts. You could interpret it as "There are no facts, only opinions/perspectives". So you...

Using prescribed text from standard course

my own teachers didn't really recommend it, perhaps because some markers might think that you weren't bothered to find your own text, but yes you can just make sure your analysis goes beyond what they're reading in the standard essays (Y)

what exactly constitutes a related text?

^ Essays are quite interesting if you can do them well and discuss the techniques as well as the form/intent appropriately. I generally find it's a lot easier to analyse novels and poetry though. Those that did essays in my cohort either got great marks or cut down, it can easily go either way...

    Understanding Outcomes Grid on Assessments?

Hum just very generally what you could do (what I would do/have done): 2a. Acknowledge that there are multiple reasons why the text is meaningful - e.g. Hughes appeals to a variety of audiences (including himself) 4. This is pretty self explanatory. When discussing the techniques you have to...

Is it better to remember essays for trials/HSC or remember quotes and techniques?

yeah i used the first method if you do decide to go with the first method, it's better to prepare slightly longer essays or random extra paragraphs or a list of quotes/other ideas just in case also choose quotes/techniques that you know you can adapt to a variety of ideas when analysing, or...

    All nighter or not?

i dunno, all nighters work for me... pulled them for all my hsc exams and trials minus maths, turned out fine somehow this isn't really good advice.

    Related texts in introduction?

Yeah my intros were all 3-4 sentences (80-100 words) and I included all the texts names etc. Like Absolutezero said, it's best if you name the text and say how it relates to the concept/argument, e.g. "This is reflected in X's play, Y, which examines -, and A's film, B, which explores -." Just...

Stuffed up an assessment :( :(

Thank you! Yeah, I felt like I was marked unfairly too, got this teacher who hated my ee2 as well :/ Ranked top 10 for every other assessment and 2nd in trials, so I managed to pull the ranks back up. I went to a top 20 private school. Good work with the essay, keep at it! Yes, there can be a...

    How to memorise your Essays

Yes, it was unexpected. My entire essay was based on the first half of the play. I only knew one phrase from the last Act that wasn't in the given excerpt. But then I figured I could talk about 'progression' e.g. how the fact that the ending was so different from the first half of the play/how...

    Semester 1 2012 Timetables!

Hopefully I'll find a way to entertain myself... without losing track of time and going home, haha. 14 hours! Haha, don't want anything back to back, but yeah, I wasn't expecting people to be so eager... most of the lectures I considered were only ~20 places from being full last night... not...

    Semester 1 2012 Timetables!

Here's mine. I hate feeling rushed so I split everything. I'm a bit apprehensive about the four hour break, but I guess it's better than just coming in for an hour or two on another day when a return trip = 3 hours anyway... I'd probably feel more inclined to skip. I got in late though, two...
