Why does the base and number have to be positive for logs?

log-2 (-8) isn’t defined in the real plane of numbers, but it is with complex (real + imaginary) numbers which is explored in Yr 12 extension 2 maths. I highly recommend this YouTube video (www.youtube.com/watch?v=9D62oOf7k2A) for those who have already covered complex numbers, but this might...

    James Ruse

There are two separate questions in the original post. I would imagine rankings for each subject are determined the same way most schools are and equal positions would be common. WRT Dux, there are usually several students with ATARs of 99.95 and they are each conferred the title. Several...

CASIO fx-8200 AU - new calculator coming next year.

I fail to understand from your explanation why it is cheaper. If it does have all the features of the 100 plus new additional features, then unless retail stores discount their stock of 100’s, they will likely be left with unsold 100’s. Surely Casio won’t want to upset their relationship with...

    equations of motion

In this scenario, neither u nor v are 0 m/s. If an object is stationary (initial velocity of 0 m/s), it will not move upwards on its own accord; the only force acting on it is gravity which is in a downward direction.

    Chemistry Pract Assessment

OP, if not already stated in the task description, state that the designed practical is "to find the chemical composition of zinc in ZnCO3 of the given mixture". Any thing else would be unreasonably difficult.

    Chemistry Pract Assessment

Can you assume that the only zinc present is as ZnCO3 (ie. there’s no zinc in the unknown soluble salts)?

    80+ ATAR still attainable?

Yes, it is attainable. Your current trajectory is probably below an ATAR of 80, so you‘ll need to put in more effort, but you’re less than halfway through the assessment component, so you can work on the other eighty percent of your marks.

    Should I drop physics?

Deciding whether to continue or drop a subject is a totally personal decision impacted by many variable factors that only the individual can assess, however a few points worth mentioning from your past and present subjects: You have already completed HSC maths and engineering subjects - if you...

    TUTORING FOR ALL SUBJECTS?

I understand that by its very nature, it’s very competitive to achieve a high ATAR, but I assume the reason for aiming for a high ATAR is to get into a desirable Uni course. The risk of getting tutored for every single HSC subject, is that the student may not learn how to learn independently and...

insulation shield for alcohol burning experiment

Might be worth pouring boiling water into a food thermos container and into a ceramic container (teapot or soup mug) and see which has held the temperature of the water better after five minutes.

insulation shield for alcohol burning experiment

Actually, most basic ceramic teapots would probably provide adequate insulation. Try K-Mart, Big W, Target, IKEA or a kitchen warehouse.

insulation shield for alcohol burning experiment

Google ‘large ceramic incense burner with lid’. Ceramic is a reasonably good insulator - that’s why we use it for hot beverages.

Can someone help me with these chemistry questions

    For Q9, K = [product] / [reactant] = [trans] / [cis] 0.17 = [trans] / 1 [trans] = 0.17 M

Can someone help me with these chemistry questions

We agree on the answers to Q6 and Q8. I get 1.52 as the answer to Q7.

Can someone help me with these chemistry questions

For Q6, I used an online calculator to get 0.39. What did you get?

Can someone help me with these chemistry questions

I’m not sure what they are trying to test with question 5. carrotsss is correct about pressure per se not affecting the equilibrium when there are equal moles of gases on each side, but then the question mentions that the (forward) reaction is exothermic, so I don’t know if they are trying to...

Can someone help me with these chemistry questions

Do they provide the answers to questions 6 & 7? @carrotsss has provided you with the correct approach, so if you provide their answers, we can determine if the textbook might be wrong (happens not uncommonly) and possibly reverse engineer from the answer.

should i withdraw if i can?

TAFE does sound like a good option for now - allows you to get used to independent study, gain skills for the work force, work part time and have some breathing space to work out what you want to do in the longer term.

    Eqm const

Your chem teacher is correct. The reasoning in your first statement is correct. Your second statement confuses cause and effect (& the wording “so less products have to be converted to products” is, itself, confusing as well). It isn’t that less reactants need to be converted to products to...
