    Civil Engineering

I did fluid mechanics at USYD, and it was really simple. I dont think it'll be too different at UNSW.

I hate my course :( What are my options?

Not to try and put words into Rish's mouth but I think he assumes that in high school, students do the hardest possible maths subject that they can do. It doesn't really work if someone did general maths in the HSC but was concurrently studying 3u/4u material at home and understanding it well...

I hate my course :( What are my options?

Wut. "Many"? No. "Few"? More likely.

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread Not someth1ng, but going on exchange next sem and have gone through this process for both business and engineering subjects so I might be of help. For my engineering side: Because engineering is really rigid about what subjects I can do, I had to choose...

Can I go on exchange for more than a year/two semesters?

No, you need to learn the language yourself. If you have free electives you can take language classes, or overload, or learn in your own time. But the uni won't help you with learning the language to get you ready. Considering going overseas is compulsory for your course, you'll probably need to...

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread Same haha and all my friends finish the day before and usually go out after the final exam :(

ISIS - Are we doing enough?

Pretty sure Russia has said that it's defending Assad against rebels and that involves defending him against ALL rebels, US-backed as well as ISIS/Al-Qaeda. So of course the West is against this, and will now engage in an information war. Expect more reports on "civilian casualties" by "Russian...

    Related courses to mining engineering?

You do fewer engineering electives, and you don't do some of the core engineering subjects e.g. at USYD you skip professional engineering, engineering management, instrumentation, etc. You also do fewer comm electives (meaning that you can only do 1 comm major).

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread Yes! And hopefully by the end of sem 1 2016 I'll be able to chip in a little as well. I, too, want to know which uni you're at.

    Related courses to mining engineering?

If you want to get into the mining sector, you don't need to do a mining engineering degree. You can get in through mechanical and electrical, and probably some other engineering degrees as well.

Can you go exchange to universities that are not partner universities?

You can, but only if the overseas university offers things like summer courses (e.g. LSE offers summer courses that last 1 month). Not sure if you can get it counted towards your degree though. For the application process, you'll just have to check the university website for that. It can vary...

    Guidance for a Year 12

    Good decision!

Is the work / assessments harder at a top university?

I dont think the actual work/assessments will be harder at top universities, because the work only depends on the course, and courses don't change depending on uni (physics at UWS is the same as physics at USYD, contracts law at UoW is the same as contracts law at UNSW). There is a difference in...

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread She is such a good lecturer. Made me not mind getting up at 6am to do maths early in the morning.

    Aerospace - USYD or UNSW???

If you want to do space specifically, USYD has a better program for that.

Is Engineering (Civil)/Science (Physics) a good idea?

http://cusp.sydney.edu.au/students/view-degree-page/degree_id/494 Take a look for yourself if you want.
  17. Amundies

Is Engineering (Civil)/Science (Physics) a good idea?

Yes you can, at any time. No. The only subjects that overlap are the first year maths subjects (1001, 1002, 1004, 1005). After that, physics and engineering don't have any overlapping of units. In physics you learn about electromagnetism and quantum mechanics, you definitely don't need any of...

Is Engineering (Civil)/Science (Physics) a good idea?

I would tend to agree with that, if someone is doing general maths then they're going to find engineering extremely hard. But if someone were to actually ask me if they should do engineering because they are interested in it but they've only done general maths, most of the time I would say they...

    Investment Banking

Also don't do engineering just because banks will like it. If you don't like it, your marks will suffer harshly. If I didn't legitimately enjoy engineering, I would hate every second of it. It can get very frustrating spending hours on a single question.

Is Engineering (Civil)/Science (Physics) a good idea?

Pretty much the same content is covered, you will miss a few electives here and there (which has to happen if you want to get 2 degrees in 5 years when separately they would take 7 years) but nothing significant enough to make a difference.
