Best laptop for uni - any price

Macbook Air 13''. The Pro is too heavy for uni imo (even the 13'' Pro) - think about it, you have uni books, food and other crap in your bag...you want the lightest possible laptop. The Macbook Air has fantastic battery life, it's always lasted me a full day. The Air is just right, it's fast...

    Info Days!

I remember last year UTS Law finished 30 minutes into USyd Law lol, so I went to UTS Law and its in the shittest, crappiest room imaginable and the lecturer has a powerpoint and starts off by saying 'Why you should go to UTS Law instead of the law school down the road', her answer was pretty...

    Law Cutoff

It depends on the university that particular year, as international students generally means more $$$ for the uni. I feel its probably around 180-200 first years + internationals + transfers, which puts the number around 250.

    The JD

For the USyd JD they count 25% ATAR and 75% WAM. They recommend a 90 ATAR and a high credit WAM. I would think it's more competitive than this and you should be looking for a 75-78 WAM at least to accompany the 90 ATAR. IF your ATAR is lower than this, your WAM would have to be hovering around...

    Question about con/law

You get to choose your major in second year. The first year of com/law comprises of the core units at USyd. Not sure about UNSW.
  12. alstah

Which pathway to get into law is best?

See, if you do Com/Law at MQ, you lose the opportunity of an internal transfer to UNSW Law, which would be much easier (say, if you studied Arts) than an external transfer comprising the 50% ATAR and 50% WAM combination studying commerce & law (two of the most difficult degrees you can study...

    How many places?

Also international students and transfers are counted to the total admissions per year.
  14. alstah

    What are you currently Reading?

Currently reading The Perks of Being a Wallflower. A pretty decent read!
  15. alstah

    How many places?

I think this year it was about 200, including international students. Including transfers it's closer to 250.

    Law Cutoff

Congrats on the magnificent ATAR! I know people with 99.65 who didn't make USyd Law. I don't think you can count on the demand for USyd law going down, historically it has been the most elite undergrad law degree in the country. If, as PastPaper suggests, there is a increase in demand in UNSW...
  17. alstah

Which pathway to get into law is best?

Remember for UNSW Law internal transfer, your ATAR doesn't count, so you should apply through UAC as well which will take into account 50% ATAR and 50% WAM.

    EAS bonus points

No, the EAS points only get considered in the offers stage in Jan.
  19. alstah

Which pathway to get into law is best?

Lets go through all the options: 1. My friend studied International Studies at UNSW and achieved a D average and managed to transfer to UNSW Law after a year. I think UNSW guarantees a certain amount of places (100 places to be exact) for internal transfers. My friend's ATAR was around the 95...

    Is it really over?

My friend was in a similar position to you. They studied Arts at USyd (with courses in economics + political economy) and achieved Distinctions and made the transfer to BCom and got the credit to major in economics and just had to do the core units. I know other's who have studied a BA at USyd...
