    Quick Q (energy)

Sounds like a typical rote learner response - that formula is used to calculated escape velocity and escape velocity only.

    Raw Marks....

Even if they attempt to give you marks, they can't give marks if you don't answer the marking guidelines properly, and it's the marking guidelines that are extremely strict. In physics marking, if you make a single mistake in your writing (misconception etc), you can lose 5 marks straight up.

    MBLG1001 with CHEM fail?

They give you the total number of people that sit the exam and you can add the total number of people for each mark bracket to get the number of people that passed. You find that of the people that sat the exam, about 10% failed in CHEM1101, about 15% failed in CHEM1001 and about 0.5% failed in...

    Raw Marks....

You probably need 50% raw to get an 80 - and it's not that hard to get 50%. It's really only hard to pick up marks once you get past 75 or so.

    how to take notes?!

Basically, one way of learning is sitting in a lecture and taking note of anything you DID NOT KNOW before the lecture and include these in your notes. If it is anything you already knew, do not include in your notes. In my case, I write notes so I can release on here so I try to include more...

    failed first uni assignment :'(

Psychology had scaling removed ages ago - BOSers only care about scaling in the physical sciences because that's where it isn't clear.

    Subject Selections 2014

Doing the same chemistry units as you, except I might drop to advanced in chemistry for S2. By chance, are your initials KG or TB?

Are you studying BA? Please give advice!

What's wrong with an Arts degree? It's called "Arts"? Don't forget that some physics majors are doing a BA.

How to ask this person out?

Yeah, I did that once, worked for me - that relationship lasted about a year.

Why is it current that kills? Why is AC more dangerous than DC - damage to the body?

Re: Why is it current that kills? Why is AC more dangerous than DC - damage to the bo In terms of which one is more dangerous, it's very subjective and personally, I think it's a rather stupid argument to have - it's like asking whether it's more dangerous to take a capsule of uranium or...

Why is it current that kills? Why is AC more dangerous than DC - damage to the body?

Re: Why is it current that kills? Why is AC more dangerous than DC - damage to the bo Let's not forget that there is a current as a result of voltage - so it's pretty useless to say that current or voltage kills you - V=IR - higher voltage means higher current. It's a bit like me dropping...

    MATH1003 Difficulty?

Yeah, it's not hard but I think MATH1002 was way easier - at least, compared to MATH1903. Hard for me to compare, I guess.

    Quick Q (energy)

Generally, yes - if there are a few different ways of writing something (like, common ways), it's fine - as long as you don't denote force as Z, mass as G, and acceleration as T, or something ridiculous, it should be fine. I think the important thing is that you are clear what each letter means...

The Meissner Effect and Maglev Trains?

Meissner effect is about superconductors magically floating in the magnetic field - it's more like a property of superconductors. Maglev trains run using very strong magnets that repel or attract (depending on how the train is set up) which levitate the train and push/pull it forward. There is...

    Validity and accuracy?

This is a bit more complicated, more accurate equipment will make your results more valid (if the method is valid) but it won't make the scientific method more valid because the method doesn't really consider equipment.

    1st year maths subjects easiness

From what I've heard, MATH1004 is easy and considering that MATH1013 is fundamentals, it shouldn't be very hard.

    America or Australia?

Pretty much this guy. The only thing I disagree with is the "fucking do it" part which is somewhat situational - if you can afford it, by all means but if you can't, it's best to stay in Australia, do undergrad here and hope you can get a postgrad place somewhere nice.

    1st year maths subjects easiness

In regular, most people get pass/credit (probably more passes) - quite few get distinction or above. I remember to get distinction, you had to pretty much be able to do the whole paper and get full marks (or close to) in all quizzes - I remember doing that and got 77.

The Meissner Effect and Maglev Trains?

The problem wasn't the HSC not explaining properly but the fact that even teachers have lots of misconceptions about the content.
